throttle bodies on standard ecu (vts/gti)
hello everyone
most of you who use this section often will be aware of the current on going debates about people running throttle bodies using the standard ecu instead of using an after market ecu.
it has now been done on a 106. i have the owners permission to share this information with you-
its an early single plug ECU vts/gti engine running pug sport copy KMS throttle bodies. sounds very nice and the owner assured me the car drives fine and ive seen it running my self and it sounds amazing!
this should settle an on going debate that it can be done.
for anyone interested in this please contact wayne at chip wizards.
thanks for reading

What are the results like BHP wise?
Better, worse or the same as an aftermarket ECU?

Is the debate whether it could be done? Or is it that an aftermarket ECU would be more beneficial?

That is could be done, and give good results and idle etc

Its been none for many years. At the sprints I used to go to many years ago there were always a few 106 running throttle bodies on a remapped stock ECU. They never worked all that well with massive holes in the power band. According to the people who had it done it cost a absolute fortune to get the mapping work done. Most such setups all in cost more than what I had paid for stand alone.

yer also i was told they put the car into limp mode to do it,
but tbf wouldnt it just be better to get a standalone ecu?
i dont think anyone said it couldnt be done, just that it be better to get a standalone ecu that can support it better.

The power figures will not tell the whole story.
As axracing hinted on, its actually about how many speed and load sites are able to be mapped. The top end ecu's have many more than a standard or basic mappable ecu so can be mapped to keep the engine running at optimum power throughout the whole revrange.

yer i like i said, i dnt think anyone said it cant be done, just will it support it as good as a standalone ecu, also would you be able to map it aswell too?
what it the total price of this? for him to do it and map it?

yer i dont think poeple where saying as much as it couldnt because anything possible with the money and time to work at it,
do you know of the price for this to be done? for the whole job lot?
just why go to all the trouble of buying iTB and have a high spec engine then use a standard ecu?
when a standalone ecu would no doubt support the throttle bodies setup better, and and most likly be able to get a better map?
