Default friends 1.4 16v saxo

Its a MK1 1.4 litre, T reg thats pretty much all i know about it. However, among other problems (like garages leaving bonnets unhooked so they fly up at 80mph) the car stalls as soon as you turn it on. I.E. you turn the ignition and get the engine turning over, and then it stalls instead of coming down to idol revs. It will only keep running if you keep the revs at around 2k RMP for a while.

I know it could probably be a huge number of things, but what would you suggest first? Ive heard somwhere that there is a liquid to clean out the injectors. Its been taken to a garage and they quoted £400 to fix but say it may still do it after that.
