Default Speedo help

I know this is a common problem, but i was driving along when i realised that my speedo wasnt working but every other dial was. I cant think of how to fix it, ive tried disconnecting the battery overnight but that hasnt worked and ive checked the fuses and i cant find the solution would be grateful for any help please.

lol i think i have the same problem as you are all your dials working i.e rev counter, temp gauge and petrol gauge except for the speedo? When i brought my vts driving down the road and the speedo gauge was going all over the place, got told by the bloke i brought it off someone ripped the speed connecter off just leaving wire ( underneath the air box right at the back of the engine bay litte white connecter ) but anyway ive put a new connecter on it and now the speedo revs with the rev counter so when you rev the car say 4000 rpm your doing 40mph sat there in neutrul lol i have also noticed on the side of the sump tank left side there was a wire hanging down with a metal ring on it not sure where it goes do you think that could solve my speedo problems out?
