Default engine query

just wondered is there any difference between the engines in the vtr mk1 and mk2 because i have a 1999 vtr and my mate has a 1997 vtr and the throttle body is different and he has spark plug leads and i have a rail that runs along the top of the inlet manifold. i have a rounded airbox and his one is square. thanks
