Xbox 360 drive sizes
Hi geeks.
basically I'm looking at the zillion versions of the 360 and I'm trying to work out how much harddrive space I need... surely the saved game progress doesn't take up that much space? If so, what is the benefit of having humongous hard drives in these things.... what else can I do with them?
Regards,.

20,60 and 120gig (and now even 250gig elites)
Ive not used anywhere near 20gigs in 2years with my xbox, loads of game saves etc... but then i dont load my hard drive with TV/Movies etc...
Buying now get an elite anyway 120gig better jasper chipset (supposed to be less likely to fup) and is not badly priced.
Some people use the large hard drives to store the game itself, (often the ones who get XBL bans) lol

depends how many games you have and if they are downloads, DLC etc
i had the standard 20gb one but thats now almost full so picked up a 2nd hand 120gb off ebay for 50quid 2nd hand (rrp at 80+ new)
just depends on what you will use it for too. just the odd game or full out geekiness (like me).
as ryan said, you can install the games to the hdd which can take up like 8gb of space. good thing about it is it cuts down the noise and sometimes makesmgames load slightly quicker.

I have 20gb and use it mainly for games saves but do have my main game (Fifa10) downloaded onto it. The good thing with that is that it cuts out using the disk drive (except for loading the game initially) so noise is reduced and can help the disk from not getting scratched. Some people say it helps loading times but i haven't noticed a difference tbh.

I much prefer downloading my games to the HD to avoid the noise of the discs being read constantly. The Xbox itself seems to run more "peacefully" when you download the games to the HD. (still need the CD in the disc tray however).
Ive got say 8 games downloaded to my HD at the moment, quite a bit of of DLC and many save games. No demos or videos atm, all in all I have 67GB free of my 120GB HD.
Id say go for the extra if you plan to use this feature. 20GB would be way too small imo.

Get a 120gb or you'll regret it as soon as you have more than 2 games.
As said in this thread you can now save your xbox games onto your hard drive so it doesn't spin the disc whilst playing. It decreases load times and the xbox doesn't sit there whirring.
If you want forza 3 for example you're looking at a 6gb install (from memory) and remember, you dont get 20gb on a 20gb hard drive, more likely around 17gb after the overheads.
Get an elite with a 120gb hard drive, you'll regret it if you dont.

Penn is spot on with regards to Forza. Comes on two discs, the second disc requires the download to HD for the additional cars/tracks.
Great game btw.

serious? for me it just seems like a tarted up forza 2.
Theres only so many times you can lap maple raceway and laguna seca before you get bored shitless imo, it needed much more diverse tracks, but then again its aimed primarily at the us market

I have hammered hours and hours on forza 2. Like I said theres only so many times you can do the same crap tracks, I really wish the developers had thought about that a bit more in career mode.

I do agree btw. Its too easy. I mean Ive only paid for 2 or 3 cars as you get so many prize cars that pwn in the next race. A better structure would have been better imo.

I've got an elite with thwe 120GB HD and I only have about 30GB left as I have a few demos on there and a number of games from the on-demand store which are like 4-6GB a game

I got by with the 256mb memory card for almost a year untill they updated the xbox dashboard & that took up 120mb space
Then i got a 60gb drive off ebay & had it filled with demos & games in a few weeks.
Id go with the bigger drive tbh dude, when you buy a new game, copy it to the HDD & play it that way untill you complete it or start getting bored or something. Forza 3 is almost unbearable to play from the disc cause the load times take hours!
