Running Ph3's unmapped?
Would it be possible to run Newman Ph3's on an unmapped vts engine as i am looking to rebuild one with these in but remapping them about a month after engine is fitted to car?
Cheers.

Yes it is possible but the idle will be rough and its not recommended to run them unmapped for longer than necessary, ie going to get it mapped!!!

okay, so if i build it up with the ph3's, store bought not re-profiled and retarded 2 degrees it should run good enough? going to do this after the mot so have as long as possible to get it running sweet. Also looking into fitting these with new springs and caps? Its a long shot but anyone know a good standalone ECU supplier and mapper near east anglia? I will admit im new to going this far into modification but when the new ecu is fitted and mapped will they also adjust the timing to get the best out of it? Cheers for your help.

Look at northampton motor sport, is it single or 3 plug,
Yer turn it over by hand before starting after fitting the cams to check the clearance.

I ran ph3's in my gti for about 3 months just fine without a remap. ran like poo on idle and would cut out whenever it felt like it (pulling up in traffic etc) but wasn't that frequently. Went like stink though on cam. Wouldn't advise it for a daily driver as it will get very old, very quickly...
