Default gearbox leaking oil

Ive got a mk2 vts and noticed over the last couple of days there have been a couple of splodges of oil appearing on the drive.

Shoved a sheet of cardboard under it last night and confirmed that it was my car leaving them. Sump and oil filer reigon are bone dry and still clean from when I changed the oil the other month.

However the underside of the gearbox where the two halves join was very greasey. and the cardboard appears to have shown the oil to be dripping from this area.
Its not the driveshaft seals as the sides of the box and still nice and clean and shiney as its only been on there around 3 months.

Can I just add some kind of sealant along the join of the box to stop it or is it more involved then that? Just thats its a pain in the arse if I am going to have to keep topping up the box

Are the two halves joined by a seal? I thought it was just some kind of sealant?

Ah right im not the most knowledgable person on cars but it looks like sealant on mine as its a bit un-even in places. If its going to have to come apart again I might have to speak to the people that re-built it

yeah good idea, dont even think the seal costs much anyway.

might be worth checking your oil level if it has been leaking too, even if you need to top it up once or twice until the problems fixed.

Not using it atm until my new driveshaft turns up so it will be refilled then anyway
