Default Changing inner cv boots

Can this be done?

Got one with a split in it and was wondering if it can be replaced. Think it happened when it was in transit to me so the joint hasnt been run dry so the joint should be ok? Think its where its been bent in transit its pinched the rubber

hard? Need special tools?

was just confused as it looks like the metal sleeve and boot etc are all factory joined with no clear way to release them.

Also the joint it very stiff and gets stuck, is this just because there is no grease in there or could there be a more under lying problem?

Cheers for the help

When they are loose they can and will get jammed rather easy. When they're fitted they should be fine as they are not to the extreme.

I have a shaft here that is almost brand new. But the boot split during storage. Joint does the exact same as yours.

right, these can be a c*** as i found out. I ended up removing the boot that came with the metal sleeve and putting a outer boot OVER the metal sleeve.

To get the metal sleeve off (if your not using it again) get a flat blade screwdriver and bend the metal upwards (gearbox spline end) Youll see where someones smacked the metal with a hammer. This basically seals the kit. once you bent the metal back pull the splined end out of the sleeve, but do this where you dont mind shitty horribly CV grease to go everywhere. be careful not to lose the bloody spring thats inside, its big but i managed to lose it. now the shaft thats in the sleeve youll see has a weird bearing on the end. Youll need circlip pliers for this bit. Get the circlip off that secure the bearing on the shaft. (located on the end of the shaft). if you have one a gear pully will this off no worries, but if not a rubber mallet will do, pentrating oil and dont go crazy and smash the bearing to bits. with that off the sleeve and boot will come off, providing you cut the lil strap off.
reassembly is the opposite of removal....

this is a rough guide, haynes manuals will show you with pics
good luck.
