Default Brembo Max vs. Black Diamond

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of totally stripping and overhauling the braking system on my 1999 VTR. I can't really get bigger brakes because I only have 14" VTR wheels and I don't want my insurance premium to go up ( it's high enough already because I still hold a provisional license). Therefore, I'm considering an uprated standard disc and brake pad configuration because quite frankly the brakes on my car are shit at the moment! I've decided I want to go for the Mintex M1144 brake pads all round and I'm going to purchase some Goodridge braided steel brake hoses, but I can't decide on the discs. I've narrowed it down to either 247 mm Black Diamond grooved discs or 247mm Brembo Max discs (all round, in both cases).

I've read around a bit on the forum and it seems that Brembo Max discs get a good review. Has anyone had much experience with Black Diamond discs? Also, I'm aware that GSF do a pair of Brembo Max discs for approx £77 (inc VAT). Are these just front discs and why are they so cheap compared to other places selling the same discs (at least I think they are the same )?
Those with Brembo Max discs at the front, what discs to you use on the rears, standard OE Brembo discs or can you get Brembo Max discs for the rear as well?

Many thanks,

Keeley

not sure about the pads/discs you mentioned specifically.

However, the pads you mentioned are more than likley 'racing' pads. They're made from a different material than normal and although when hot they do perform excellently if they get cold (like first thing in the morning or motorway driving when you are on the brakes as much) then they are shite.

Anyway, if you're on a provisional licence then your insurance is 'cheap' it'll shoot up once you pass your test.
Sounds stupid i know but think about it, when your on your provisional you'll always have an expereince passenger with you and you wouldn't normally do as many miles as when you pass your test. Then when you pass you're out on your own, a new, un-experieced driver thrashing around in a VTR just spells out crash to an insurance company.
Don't get me wrong im not ripping your driving or anything, you could be the best driver going for all i know but the insurace company dosn't either.

Cheers Swampy! May I ask what discs you ran on the rears? As I said in my previous post, I'm not sure if you can get Brembo Max discs for the rear brakes?
