'Ello friends.
Anyone know where I can get a Straight Cut Gearbox or even better a kit so I can use my old Gearbox case with new Straight cut Gears?
This is for my VTR by the way

A straight cut gearbox will be way more than your car is currently worth. Unless you have £3.5k spare to buy one I would forget it if I were you. If you do have the money though.. http://www.quaife.co.uk/catalogue/products/qke7h-4.

Lol nope not for £300. I've seen a few second hand ones but even they are upwards of £1.5k.
Your not on about an S1 106 Rallye gearbox are you? There around £150-£300 depending on condition. Not straight cut though, just a better final drive (acceleration will be a lot better), but then you will be hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear at around 105-110mph. Depends what you want I guess..

Well no I wasn't but now you've said that I'll look into that because I won't need anymore than 100 and that's only for like 2-3 seconds lol.
Thanks again mate!!!

Depending on how much I have left after Building the Engine I might go for a complete kit or just a lighter flywheel for the time being.

Why do you want a straight cut gearbox? Miss a gearchange or get it built up by someone who doesn't know what they're doing and you'll be looking at expensive rebuilds more often than I'm sure you'd like.
Unless you're going for tenths of seconds over say a lap or a stage, forget it.

Nah I was just looking at all the options I could have, Wanted to look into Straight Cut Gearboxes to see the benefits and downsides and prices. And I like the noise they have lol.

Unfortunately the noise they make is the noise of the dogs grinding together without syncomesh, so to get the full effect you'd need to have the noise of money jingling around as a backing track LOL!
I agree though, they do sound brilliant!

Fluffing a gearchange may result in the lug engagement getting damaged or chipping a gear wheel but generally a straight cut box is a lot stronger and robust. If you match the revs you dont even have to use the clutch though its not recommended. The straight cut gears generally have less parasitic losses and you are able to customise the gearratios but theres plenty of disadvantages to weigh up against it...

You've really got to go for the gear though, and it goes back to what I said about them being built up by someone who truly knows what they're doing. Our second team car is a Group A Pug 205 that we recently who bought with a Drenth dog box, and on missing two gears the driver damaged one of the gears beyond repair. When the box was stripped it was the case that everything was slightly out of alignment, the shims were not correct and the damage resulting from the missed gear was in fact partly because the thing wasn't built correctly in the first place.
MINE FIELD!! LOL!

And the noise is the sound of the straight teeth engaging. Not the dogs, as they are engaged and have nothing to grind against once in gear. Its loud as with straight teeth the whole tooth contacts along it's whole length instantaneously. Whereas with helical cut it is and infinite progressive engagement and disengagement between the teeth.
