Rear Beam Questions and Stub Pins
Right this is quite a complicated question so I hope you can bear with me.
I had a newly refurbished beam about a year ago - however since then I've been slowly preparing the chassis for a TU5 conversion - with a bigger brake setup and converting the front to run the VT suspension(droplinks/thicker ARB and slightly wider wishbone track), and as a final stage I'm looking to upgrade to rear discs, rather than the current drums.
Yes I'm fully aware this isn't strictly necessary as the rear only does a tiny proportion of the braking, however it is something I wish to do - so just humour me.
My main question - Where is the stub pin located in the beam? Am I right in thinking it is what the trailing arm is mounted onto (EG the metal tube sticking out from the inner arms?). I was half considering getting some disc beam trailing arms, renewing the seals and bearings, and putting them on my beam, since the rest of the beam is still perfectly adequate.
Forgive my ignorance - most other areas of the car I am perfectly fine with - it's just for some reason I've never had anything to do with the rear suspension before.

It isn't worth exposed and damaging the seals By removing the arms. It's just asking for water ingress and failure.
Just get a new one

As I said, I'll be renewing the bearings and seals in the trailing arms. Regardless of that the trailing arms have been off the beam before, so it makes little difference now as the seals have already been disturbed.
As long as you're careful when removing the arms - the seals should usually be fine.
Anyway back on topic - do you know if the part I described above is the stub pin?

the stub axle is what the wheel bearings run on, they are longer on the disc brake trailing arms as the hubs have a larger offset.
these are the bits you need to get that would be disc brake specific, it would be easiest to source another complete beam and use the trailing arms on your good crossmember if the one you get is worn.
you wont damage the seals in any way by just pulling an arm shaft off, though they would if you tried removing them.

The stub pin is the pin that the hub nuts bolts onto, strip the hub down so you just have the stub pit poking out and give it a whack, you may need to take the arm off and put in a press. My dad got a massive lump hammer out on mine and bashed it but it fucked it up, the new one i was fitting we grinded the arm in was in so it didnt damage the end by hitting it.

The stub axle on the rear of a saxo vts how do you remove this ?? any idea's what the allen key dirrectly at the back of it is for ?? cheers

I know it's an old thread, but may be usefull to someone the Allen head in the stub axle is only there for lining up the splines when fitting the new item, Knock the old one out from the end were the hub nut would go, then line the new one up, and knock in with a copper hammer or press. re-fit the hub and torque the hub nut making sure the pin has fully seated back into the arm, then loosen hub nut and re-torque.
