£100 mk1 vtr
A couple of you on here already know bout this car, but after 3 months of reading about others cars, think its time to join and start my own thread, hoping that some of you will enjoy the read.
I bought my MK1 posi blue vtr 0n 98 thousand miles from a friend of a friend who had an accident in it, this ment that i was able to pick it up for the very attractive sum of £100. So we set about strapping the bumpers back on as best we could then of on a very interesting and thankfully uneventful 10 minute journey back to my house were it would live until i passes my test at the beggining of November.
The pictures below show the state that the exterior was in after removing all the parts that would no longer be able to stay on the car. There are no pics of the interior because i didnt think about it at the time, but it is in very good condition for the age of the car.
So i set about trying to purchase the parts needed, trying to keep it as cheap as possible to try and see how little i could get it fully road worthy for, and to ensure that i had enough left for insurance. I purchased most parts off ebay and ensured that i only bought what i needed. I have no pics at present of how it looks now but i have been driving it since my 18th on the 13th of december, so i will give it a good clean and get some pictures up over the next couple of days.
It is by no means perfect, more a work in slow progress now i have the all the parts that allows it to be driven, however i plan to carry on the improvements as and when funds allow.
As said i hope to post up pictures of how it looks now over the next couple of days, and write a full list of everything that i have done.
Thanks for reading, all comments will be appreciated.

Yep so far so good, apart from a problem it picked up couple of days ago which means i cant drive it at the moment. It lost power as i went down from third to second, so even at the highest of revs the car was hardly moving. Feels and sounds as if it is only running on a couple of valves but hopefully it will be somthing easier to fix than that. Gonna try and get an engine diagnostic done soon.

Thanks for all the replys. Thanks for the offer of parts but as said i have all the bits I need for now. Ive been driving it since around the middle of december just picked up the first problem, as explained above, but after looking through the forum it looks like a pretty common problem for a car of this age, hopefully it will be an easy fix. Now back to the

Right, took some pictures of how it stands today, im quite pleased given the state I got it in, and what i have acheived by doing all the work myself, there are still a few bits that im not liking, but hopfully over time I can sort these out. Such a bugger that i am not able to drive it at the moment due to its current problem with the engine, because it has so far been a dream to drive.
Oh and also i want to apologise in advance about the lexus lights, i aint proud of them, it was just that i was able to pick them up dirt cheap, an they do the job for now. Thinking of smoking them and seeing how that turns out, if anyone has done this can you please post a pic so i can get a genral idea of how they will look. However i do kinda like the DTM mirrors, but dont really know what other peoples opinion on them is.
So there it is, to get it looking like this i have spent around £400 including the price of the car, this has got me front and rear bumpers, slam panel, all the lights, boot lid albeit a little dented but a vast improvment on the last one, 1 alloy wheel which means i now have five 4 are in good condition but one on the car will have to be replaced come MOT time, 1 new tire and the grill which snapped in the post and has been meshed pretty badly so will be coming off to be repaired soon.
The bonnet is dented above the drivers side headlight but I can live with that, and it still has the large dent running along the rear of the passenger side which hopfully if it all runs smoothly again i will think about getting it fixed. The exhaust is hanging far to low for my liking and i have been informed that it is actually an argos back box so i will soon be on the market for possibly a full system with cat when funds alough, however still being in sixth form and only working at weekends, seems ages away. Oh an one last thing i still need to replace the spoiler on the boot, but i currently cant get the boot lid to fit flush.
Thanks for reading, look forward to reading your thoughts or should i say faults

Thanks Alex i will have a think and let you know what i come up with. As said in the post i am more focused on getting it running smoothly at the moment then I will think about gouge on the side, will probably take it to a few body shops and see what they think and what price, then will decide whether it is worth it. At the end of the day i have only spent around £400 on it and i am pretty happy with the condition it is now in, im not looking for perfection, more a car that that will get me around with the added bonus of it being in my opinion a good looking VTR. Since i started looking for a first car i always new in the back of my mind that i would love a VTR and for now i have one.

Right i was waiting for somone to ask about insurance, its a bit of an embarrising situation really but anyway....
I wasnt able to afford to insure it under a normal policy, so have ended up having to go with a company called IKube, the insurance came to £1400, but im not ment to drive it between 11pm and 5am, if i do i have to pay somthing like £40 each time. This has come to just over a thousand less than what i was quoted by Quinn, and just for a laugh the AA quoted me £6000!
The restrictions havnt really affected me yet mainly due to them only getting round to fitting it yesterday! But it gets me to an from college or where ever i wanna go during the day and means that somone else drives me at night Supose its not so bad as mates who drive smaller engined puntos and corsas are paying more than me, not that im trying to make it sound good or anything.
