Default Sams Two-Tone VTR

right so about time for a build thread,
ive had her since october, when my old polo breadvan died in a cloud of smoke, the poor thing couldnt handle more than 5mins of traffic, so i had a little look on ebay an saw a nice two tone ending in an hour, fairly local so i put in a bid as i left uni and by the time i got home i was the owner of a vtr. wahey.
i just hadnt seen it yet

pic from ad

it had 134k miles, full service history including a haynes manual and a haynes max power guide( which was hilarious bog reading)
it was standard apart from a powerflow cat back exhaust and an alarm, not bad for under £500

got it home and gave it a clean an took some pics blah blah

oh yeh it even had some french pressed plates, aint had them on as i hate getting pulled

since then ive been using it as my daily and all ive done is change the headunit to an alpine one i had with ipod possibilities,
she went down to newquay from london at xmas to go for a nice winter surf and didnt miss a beat, actually, it was the most fun car ive taken down the a303 ever love them cornish roads too, only thing i found after a 500mile road trip is that the exhaust is realy f-ing droney at 3k revs after a while, so i clearly need some bass to cover it up on them long journeys

at the beginning of the week it was dreaded mot time, and well she failed,
needed droplinks, number plate light and the rear brakes were recording little or no effort =/
so ive swapped the droplinks and bulbs and decided to give it to the garage to make my back brakes work, hoping it wont cost too much, cos as soon as its back i can start with some proper mods.
mainly lowering hopefully by the end of the month, and then a bit of smoothing, but before any of this can happen i need to decide if i like the alloys i have lying around,

anyone know what these are?

there from a peugeot im guessing as they had a lion centercap and they are the same pcd, centerbore etc, but must have a different et cos they hit my droplinks when there on the car =/
im thinking ill need about 20mm spacers to make them fit with some longer bolts but i dunno if i like them on the car.
the black is a definate win over the silver vtr alloys but if i painted teh vtr ones black too i mite like them more....

heres a cheeky test fit

i think im gonna wait till its lowered to make any wheel descisions but in the meantime any opinions?
spokey, standard, black or a nice dark grey(poss the lower half grey)

wow thats a large post, ill give u +1 stokens if you read all of it
oh yeh while im posting here anyone from london on this? would be nice to go to a meet or 2 to get sum inspiration n all that.

Sam

Looks a good base! Alot of miles - But I suppose it's proved itself

What size are the black alloys? Look a bit lost in the arches. I would get rid and get some VTS 15's. Sure there's a couple of 2 tones on here with anthracite VTS alloys (some shade as the lower half of the car) and they look spot on.

Yeh it's been broken in nicely
The black alloys are 14s like the vtr wheels, they both have the same tyre size on them
I dunno about vts's everyone seems to have em, they do look good but I'm happy to rock vtr alloys till I get some proper rims on there maybe I need to paint them black or anthracite to entertain myself in the meantime

I mite get some 15 steels off a 406 or summin, get them banded eventually an can even have novelty wheel trims, I seen something with merc hubcaps that looked quite cool

Dont ruin a two tone by all this slammed and dished bollocks. Silver wheels suit it better. Also did you fit the drop links the right way round? they'll catch the wheels if fitted backwards

I too have a 2 tone with black Gti6 Alloys. I'm thinking of going back to a standard colour or a gun metal color.

Yep, I think I agree, the more I look at black alloys, the more I think a grey would look better

Btw, did you have to use spacers to fit the gti6 wheels?

so yesterday good things happened, went over to KrisB's and got lowering done!

i picked up some apex -50 springs and shocks on the way over, and grabbed a fuse for the sub on the way which fixed it for £1. 56, was very nice having bass for the drive over to dorking.
while he was fitting everything i discovered my gearbox driveshaft seal leaks as well as the engine, dunno where the leaks comming from tho, so will keep an eye on it till i service the car when i can have a closer look at things

more importantly, pics!

i followed Kris's 405 down to the petrol station, along dorkings lovely countryroads, they are way more fun on the new suspension, feels a lot firmer and adds fastness in corners well worth the quids its cost me an ive only driven them for about 2 hours haha

i wanna find a standard vtr to park it next to to really notice the difference, but this'l do for now

lower than a porsche, win

The gearbox oil leak is coming from the Dif Seals. About £20 from Citreon. Easy job to replace/

Sound, would make sense, there's a nice little whine coming from the gearbox when u let off the accelerator higher in the rev range, I'll have a look around when i get round to servicing it

Well, a New bumper is in the pipeline as I want to smooth off the number plate and maybe the fogs aswell as I think this will really clean up the front of the car, but...

I painted the pressed plates I have and apart from the white screws I quite like the look, makes the front plate a bit more hidden

dunno about the back tho, maybe a silver or a grey?*
