Default Citroen saxo vtr d/s driveshaft issue

Hi all,

I have a mk2 citroen saxo vtr and have had some squeaking and grinding noises coming from the car for over a week now. I inspected the car at the weekend and found the clip for the driverside driveshaft nearest the hub has come off and all the grease spewed everywhere. Is it best to replace the driveshaft or just put a new clip on and fill it with grease again?

Thanks

try filling the boot with grease and put a jubilee clip round it so its secure. You may have gotten lucky, but from what you say about grinding noises its probably had it.

I think I will just go ahead and change the driveshaft it will save me the bother later on if it goes. How much would you want for one Jason mate? I gather they are fairly straight forward to swap over so shouldn't be to big a job....hopefully!!! I need the car for a drive to Liverpool at the weekend so really need to sort it before heading off there.

Cheers guys

Right then...I now have a driveshaft sorted so just need to find out what other bits I may have to purchase!! Any nuts washers seals etc?? I have been told I will have to drain the gearbox oil??? What spec oil will I need to replace it with? just bog standard gearbox oil? Does anybody know how many litres I will need to be putting back in or should I just bang the old shit back in

cheers

2 litres of oil, if you want to be absolutely sure of a 100% job first time its worth getting a driveshaft seal (genuine one, more expensive but work! Ilkeston Co-op Peugeot keep them in). Thats about it, i'll give you a run down when i see you on thursday mate

You'll need a square drive to do this but cant remember the size off hand. Halfords do a set of gearbox plug adaptors which fit and were about £5 when I bought them plus they are useful for sump nuts of other cars etc). Anyway, take the lowest plug out and let the oil out, then refit it. Take the upper plug out and then use this to fill it up until oil comes from the filler hole then its done - refit the plug. If you are lazy pop the breather cover off on top of the box (which is near the selector arm) and do it through there but just make sure you put the filler plug back in on the underside of the box.
