Default Camera Advice

Hey guys,
I'm new to the photography seen and currently own a Fujifilm S5600 and was wondering if this camera is any good and what lenses do I need?
Or should I upgrade to a new one...if so, which camera would you recommend?
Thanks

You can't change lenses on that camera of yours, it's an old old bridge camera. Probably not much cop compared to what's out now.

As for your next question, what do you want a camera for? And what's your budget?

I had that camera a few years back, if you spend time playing about with it and reading the manual you can get some really good results.

I'm looking for a dslr as I'll be a photography student in september and need to know which ones best? As for budget, anything under £1,000 will do

It is good for point and shoot but not great for other things.

I was in the same position mate, regarding amount to spend on a camera. from my experience, I got:

Canon 550D - £389 body only (cheaper because the 600D is out, yet the same spec as the 550D)
Sandisk memory card, 16GB extreme was £17 from amazon / 7dayshop iirc.
Amazon lens cleaning pen - £3.89 from amazon.
Microfibre cloth, I had a few that hasn't been used before that i bought for the car.

As for lenses, well thats a whole new kettle of fish, depends what your after for your style shooting really, what focal lengths you want, and whether it be prime or zoom... My selection includes:

Sigma 10-20mm F4 - 5.6 £334 iirc (although i'll be selling this to fund something else)
Canon 50mm 1.8 - £70
and recently picked up a Sigma 30mm 1.4 off ebay - £260

I'm not claiming to know the 'best' products btw, i'm sure a dude with more knowlede will have some input, that's just what works for me and my budget.

If youre after a decent 'normal' zoom, the Tamron 17 - 50 F2.8 seems pretty good, a lot of people reccomend it, and it can be had for about £250 for the early model.

lens cloths dont buy one they're a waste of money. Just go to the local opticians and claim you lost your glasses cloth, same thing without the £5 charge.

Canon 50 1.8 is a great lens if you like plastic, misfocussing pieces of garbage imo.

Cheers for reply guys, I have been looking at the Canon EOS 500D but seems alot more expensive that you've stated? I've also been looking at Nikon D3000 / D3100, are these any good as they seem to do everything all the others seem to do and are cheaper?

PS-I wear glasses so will use the cloth provided to clean lenses

Think the Nikon equiv to the 550d is the D3100 or whatever it's called, don't quote me on that though!

I've got a D3100 so just have a look through all my posts in "I Quite Like That".

I would say its okay... It's not brilliant but I wasn't expecting it to be, plus it's coupled to a Sigma 18-250mm most of the time so some of the images are a bit soft. Borrowed a mates 18-105mm Nikon lens once and the image quality was slightly better.

Personally I'd keep tabs on a second hand Nikon D90 with the 18-105mm VR lens.
