Default Removing HAmmerite Red off Alloys

I'm going to remove the red Hammerite paint off my alloys today so I can eventually spray them white.

Should I just Drench them in white spirit or just key the red paint and leave it on then prime over it?

Cheers

If you sand them down the red will come off anyway, aslong as you sand them down enough. Could try white spirit/brake fluid etc but doesn't always get rid of all the paint

nitromors is good at getting paint off,

but I would highly recommend sanding them down and getting them smooth before painting, preparation is the key to painting

It will take me about 4 months to sand through all that Hammerite so I thought stripping it down would be much quicker

I will be sanding it down, priming and prepping. Just wasn't sure what to do with the current paint!

Well you can just use paint stripper then sand down the rest so its smooth anyway, not harm in doing so

Looks like cellulose thinners and a scraping it off is the best shout. Then sand, prime, spray and lacquer!

Should I just sand the paint down slightly, wet/dry and prime on the paint? Won't paint be a better base than the metal?

Blasting them scores the surface though so unless you have them powdercoated after, which i do and think its great could leave you with a tatty finish..

you need some nitromors mate to do a proper job.. you'll need to strip them back to the alloy really if you want a quality smooth job and 1 that will last and not bubble

not a 100% but i would think red will bleed through white unless you put loads of coats on

oh you've got a right game on your hands mate. hamerite is a silicon based paint.
so you need to get it all off with out sanding before you start painting other wise it'll react with the paint and will look awful.

try a really good paint stripper. if failing that get them dipped./ sandblasted.
