French Kissing...UK VTR + VTS in France: New photos page 4
Finished playing with the VTR for now so thought I'd post some piccies to get your views....
The plan was for a cheap, fun everyday drive that could handle the French rural roads as well as shifting on the better stuff - I don't do standard and enjoy modifying (mainly bikes for the last 10 years but back to playing with cars again now).
Anyway in the beginning she was like this >>
Changed the rims >>
Steering wheel changed >>
Rear box >>
To date : Wheels, Rear box, Momo wheel, new clutch (the original thrust bearing died after 140k miles), 2nd hand rear LHS caliper (hand brake didn't work), PiperX induction kit, stubby aerial, smoked front and rear lights, M3 mirrors, Pioneer head unit, badgeless sports grill and she now looks like this >>
I'll probably go for a lower ride and am thinking 30mm rear and 40mm front - but open to suggestions....
I've tried to go for a subtle look, the induction kit and back box give an awesome growl above 4k revs and I'm more than impressed with her performance. The local froggies quite like her although being a right hand drive it confuses them a lot. They're also not really into the subtle look...more the extremely large wing glued on and hope it looks good
Last photo is of one of my other toys which I had to let go two weeks ago due to an ongoing very expensive divorce
I love trawling the posts here and seeing what you guys have done to your rides - takes me back about 20 years to when I was in my late teens...then it was Astra GTE's, Golf GTi's and Escort MkII and III's - god I feel old now

It was - 1999 model with 25k miles on it from new - had a Scooby sport exhaust and a few other mods - the photo was taken near St. Tropez during the hols this year (and modified in Totoshop), got quite a reasonable miles/gallon out of her until you put the foot down of course. Came back through the Drome area with lots of twisty roads - ideal for a Rally car - I miss her (the car not the ex-wife...lol)

Turns out I hadn't finished after all - as I found some more stuff to do....
I've had a go at polishing the manifold heat cover - not perfect but not bad I think - also got around to spraying up the rocker cover in matt black (good old spray paint for a wood burner - so should be able to cope with the heat OK).
Before:
After:
I've also got a Spax 40mm lowering kit (springs and dampers) heading my way which will be fitted soon along with a Raceland strut brace

Spax PSX 40mm kit fitted now - pain in the *rse with the Torsion bars sticking but thanks to the various threads/advice on here I got it sorted
Also I've swapped back to the modified OE grill from the Dimma one now that it fits better (thanks for the advice lads ).
Well pleased with the result (sorry the car's not clean)
and in mode snow plough ...lol
Next stop to fit the bucket recliners bought the other week

My VTR now has a big sister to keep him company
I've bought "Rich_Black_VTS" 2000 Mk2 VTS and brought her back to France.
Here's how she was when Rich had her
After nearly 900 km in the fog, snow and shite conditions here she is back home in France with my Defender
Fitted the Angel Eyes today (I have to change the lights anyway for the French MOT and registration so decided on Angels for a change to the VTR)
Mods planned are:
Install the newly acquired Race recliners
32cm Steering wheel.
Smoke the rear lights
Strut brace (I'm after an E-Tech in case anyone's selling one????)
Stubby aerial (as the standard one looks more like a fishing rod)
Like the VTR I like the subtle look and with both cars being black once the VTS is finished I think they'll make a nice pair.
Why the VTS - 2 reasons: 1. I wanted a bit more power and 2. The girlfriend wants the VTR - although now she preferes the VTS

Good progress, not a fan of the mirrors on the VTR though

Both cars got a decent clean today and the VTS has now a stubby aerial and VTS sticker over the rear window brake light (Rich kindly included it in the "pack" he gave me so I thought I'd see what it looked like in place).
I quite like the M3 style mirrors on the VTR but the girlfriend's not too keen either - the original VTR ones were in bad shape but now I've located a decent breakers/scrappy near me I may end up changing them back - we'll see.
