My old cars No Saxos Part 4
Ok, decided to do a history of my car ownership. I will try and put them in order of ownership, but didn't even remember them all til I dug out the pics.
First up a mini 1000
Unfortunately this is the only pic I have, taken not long after I bought her. First job I ever done on a car was changing the head gasket. She got a fibreglass front and repainted red with a white roof. Had her for a while, no idea what happened to her.
Next up
Mark2 escort 1100L
This is her not long after I got her, with my bird at that time.
I removed the grill and painted the car red behind it. Painted the bottom of all round the car with silver hammerite

Then I fitted a 1600 engine, keeping the 1100 box and axle. Some cibie oscars and cut down bumpers

Finally some mesh, spoilers, harnesses, RS alloys and a paint job

This car was sold to a guy in London and was aparently still around in fairly recent years. Not sure now though.
Then I seen this for sale.....

I had to have it, and when i found out that insurance (although the highest category at that tiome, group 8b), wasnt much more it became mine. It was a full spec RS 1600 rally car.

I changed the diff to make it better for the road. It did 70mph in first, but only about 4 miles to the gallon. What i didnt know was it was built as a rally car by Ford, today would be worth in excess of £20k
More to follow........

It was the full monty. It was dry sumped, had a heater to preheat the oil so the oil pressure wouldn't blow all the seals, and those arches are real steel, not fibreglass extensions. Blew the engine eventually and had to get rid after the repairs as I couldnt afford to maintain it properly. It needed constant fettling

If I had the money yes, definately. It was hard work, but always brought a smile. The cam only cut in at 4500 revs and it revved to 8500 (I think), so you had to drive about town in 1st and dip the clutch a lot. 2 days after I bought it I got pulled. "exhausts a bit loud sir" says plod. "Would you like to try a noise meter on it? or would my certificate from the weekend when the car was in the Snowman rally do? " says I. Strangely they never bothered me again with that car. I only wish i had the money to have rallied it myself. Was always getting pulled in them days. Bizarelly got pulled 2 days after getting the saxo too

No, basically they didnt expect me to be driving it. The boy I bought it from had been banned and I think they were expecting him. With a shocked look on their faces they explained I had a sidelight out. And that one of my brakelights was dimmer than the other.....WTF?

Next came a 1660 sprint engined Fiesta supersport. It was very fast 0-60 (about 4 or 5 secs) but topped out at about 85 mph. The gearbox was a modded RS turbo box, but it only had 4 gears.

It was so unreliable though. So I bought this Capri as well

It was a 3.0 S
It was pretty quick, and it handled VERY well, a surprise for a capri, but then it had been lowered before I bought it

I sold the capri, and about 2 days later someone smashed the sunroof and torched it
Then I swapped the Fiesta for an Escort. It had X-pack arches, 7x13 wellers. I can't remember now, but think it was a 2 litre pinto. It had Purple velour interior. Tbh it quite suited that car at that time
