motorbike help
Basically i am trying to pass my test before these new laws kick in. Do not want to wait till i am 24.
Forgot the name but I am looking to pass the test which i can take at 19 years old and after 2 years will allow me to ride any size of bike. What is this test called and what will i need to do for it? I have ridden bikes for a long time but have never taken any kind of test or training like cbt. I have held a car license for 2 years but not sure about things like doing theory again?
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Best bet is just to ring round locally, and see if anyone in your area does lesson by lesson, ( same as car lessons, you pay for each lesson ) as this may save you a shed load of money!
As, if you book a direct access course there is NO guarantee AT all that you will pass.
From what i remember, Mod 1 costs around £31. And mod 2 costs £75 ( Approx )
I had 1 lesson before my mod 1, and 2 before my mod 2, my lessons were £30 per hour!
I passed both first time, so did the whole lot for under £200. ( Result )
From what i remember the whole 24 Age comes into play in January next year.
But tbh, i wouldn't worry much about the whole age restriction, I know loadssss of people who's bikes are meant to be restricted to 33 bhp, but are not. All you need is a engineer's report, or a restriction kit, signed by a motorcycle shop.

Atm, if you take your full test while your 21 Year's or over, that allows you to ride any CC bike, once you have passed.
Jan next year it changes to 24 Years.

I think that's a good thing though, same as if you pass at 18,19,20 then? Restricted to the 33bhp for 2 years?
No other changes? I thought it was more than that lol

ATM, if you pass your full test @ 17/18/19 your bike has to be Restricted to 33 BHP for 2 years/till your 21. Yes you are correct dude.
Hmmm, idk my self. Not being big headed but i think its pretty un-fair on bikers.
Ive been riding bikes for a very long period of my life, My road bike is currently a 2007 ZX6R.
As i am only 19, and haven't been passed for two year's,I am still under the " 33 bhp restriction ", Obv my ZX is not restricted in the slightest. Its very easy to get round it.
My argument is, once you pass your car test their is no restriction to what CC car you can have, so why should this apply for bikers?
Edit: I am not aware of any other changes to the 2013 Law.

There should be a restriction on cars too imo - With the bikes though, you could of been riding off road for years but as you know, on road is totally different

The whole law is pretty stupid. My brother passed his bike test then didn't ride for years meaning his restriction was up. I passed and did over 20,000 miles on the road yet still had a restriction. I never restricted anything though, was questioned once by a copper so I just said yeah it's restricted. He never queried any more.

I've still got my Aprilia RX125 on a CBT that I use from time to time, looking at a DRZ400 SM though, any comment on them?

Not a bad bike. As far as SM's go its miles from a 'proper' SM but if you've never owned a proper one it'd be fantastic. Very reliable, handle well and easy servicing. They're a good bike tbf!

I use to own one
I thought they were fantastic bikes.
Heavy for a SM though, very heavy.
Stick some avon distanzias on it and its a winner

Just to say this unfortunately isn't true. Being restricted myself until February next year I looked deeply into this and no piece of paper is going to be enough to convince the law. At the end of the day if they are that sure you aren't restricting your bike then it will be put in a dyno. How often this happens though who knows, I imagine most people never restrict there bike tbh.

I passed in april 2000 so i never even done a theory test. I was 20 so technically i had to wait until i was 22 before i could ride unrestricted (21 years old or 2 years- whichever was latest) unless i done another test. I got a zxr400 and never had it restricted and. Ever got pulled or questioned about it in that time. Oh how the laws have changed since then!
I do aggree that there should be some sort of restriction for cars though. Theres nothing stopping somone getting in a ferrari the day after they pass if they have the money to do so.

I'm hoping to do my test too
Done the theory just need my 125 fixed up so I can bang MOD1 !
Funnily enough I'm wanting a DRZ400sm too lol
Get over to bikechatforums
If you are 19 and don't pass your test before Jan 2013 then I believe when you do pass, you are restricted to 46.6 BHP until you are 24 years old. Then you have to take ANOTHER test to ride anything bigger.
So it makes sense to get it out the way..

i though they are going to 4 tests.
when your 17, you are restricted to a 125 max but don't have to take a cbtor theroy again.
when you turn 19 you take another test which restricts you to a bike of 33bhp.
when you turn 21 another test, restricts to a 46.6 bhp bike.
then when you turn 24 if you take you test on a bike over 54 bhp and pass you can ride any bhp bike.
turned 21 in july so getting mine done a.s.a.p, got my theory test on wednesday
