Default 2x broken springs.

Been told I've got a broken spring on each side...I can't afford to replace them until payday. Is it still safe to drive the car? Thanks.

It depends how and where they have snapped, but its not advisable.

I'd not advise it, but many people drive on broken springs for months without realising.

Take from that what you may.

It's actually a matter of £74 a side + £25 tracking and even "a matter of £30" is no good if you dont have £30 for that... Just saying.

I wasn't saying I was going to risk hurting my self and othere people. This is the reason I was asking the question I asked...

you were quoted £74.00 for 1 spring? you are being ripped a new one. I have been in the automotive parts industry for years and even oem brands are not that expensive... even if you meant per axel (saxos only have 2 springs) £74.00 is still expensive

Usually garages will check the tracking free of charge after fitting a spring as it shouldn't alter it too much if at all.. Changing a shock would alter it however..

End of the day its against the law to drive a car knowing you have a problem with it and you are risking it big time.

If someone crashed into me due to a broken spring popping out the seat and swerving, a part falling off or causing tyre damage I would be pissed.

If you where willing to do it yourself, you could probably get away with replacing the springs for about £20+£10 for a spring compressor tool |(I am sure you can source a second hand pair of springs from somewhere)

You can get away with not having the tracking done until you get paid, unless you go taking the steering apart...

With my cheap arse hat on......Why would the tracking be out? I'm guessing the vectra dampers are bolted to the hubs so are not going to disturb the tracking when the springs are changed.

Give me a pm with your numberplate and I'll get a price...

It happens a lot these days. I've tended to supply Eibach as a replacement as they are cheaper than from the Manufacturers. Aftermarket cheap ones are probably less though. Not sure on the quality of those...

I was having brakes changed and a service. Asked them to check my suspension as the car pulls to the right and creaks over speed bumps. According to them both springs have broken. Do these symptoms sound rite? I tried to have a look and feel of the spring but it'd really hard to with the car on the ground. I will ofcourse ask them to show me when I go in on Tuesday. And the price is fine imo since it comes with 2 year guarantee I'm not going to complain.

It's strange I can't physically see or feel any brakeage on the springs...had a real good look and feel by turning the wheels and feeling around with a torch...I'll get a second opinion but I'll be disappointed if their trying it on.
