Problem with VTR alloys on Saxo Desire - Saxperience

Right first off I pretty much a noob when it comes to cars and am not that bothered with them really. So hopefully this could be an easy to fix problem that I just have no idea about. I have a Saxo Desire that was made in 2001. It is a a nothern Ireland spec which I'm told is different to the UK spec Desire because it has ABS and a passenger airbag where the glovebox should be. I've had the car for 6 months and before I put the new alloys on it was a perfect runner and I've never had a problem with it other than a split cv boot which I had changed. The standard wheels on my car were 13" and my car is completely standard. As soon as I put the VTR alloys on they were rubbing straight away (on the shell of the car), both back ones. So I was told to put 5mm spacers on the back, which I did. That stopped the rubbing at first but I noticed that one wheel was closer to the shell than the other. The first time that the rubbing came back was when I had 2 passengers in the back. The sound comes from the rear drivers side (the one that's closer to the shell) and is something that is hard to describe, its almost a high pitch squeak. The sound is constant while going straight, and I remember that it was worse while turning one way and it goes while turning the other. I can't remember which was which, sorry. I can carry two passengers without much problem as long as the one in the back sits on the passenger side. Another time I have noticed it is when I go over a harsh speed bump, as the back wheels come down off the bump it sometimes lets out the high pitch squeal for a second. The third and final time I've noticed a problem is when I'm on a fast road and I'm going around a bend, again I can't remember if it's left or right but there is like a knocking feeling coming from the same wheel. I'd like to know what's causing the problem and fix it to eliminate the spacers as well. I've tried to be as detailed as I possibly can here to give you as much of an idea on the problem as I can, I apologise for the directions thing and if it really is vital information to know which is which then I'll update next time it happens which should be today. I did try searching the forums for similar problems first and despite finding some people with problems after putting VTR alloys on I found that none really helped me so I made a new thread. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

if you have one wheel closer than the other at the back chances are you may have a knackered rear beam

Take a photo of the back of the car with both rear wheels in shot :-) car being on the floor not jacked up

Wow thanks for the such fast replies! And sorry for my slow one I've just got home from work. Yes I've been told it might be the rear axel by another person but I was hoping it was something else because its quite an expensive fix with £200 for the part and £200 for the labour. Also I can now confirm that the nocking from the wheel when I'm going fast happens when I'm turning left. Also I've just taken a photo of the back two wheels on my phone and I can't see an option to upload it from my phone?
