Need a rear axle removel/fitting guide!!
hey all,
has anyone got a rear axle removel/fitting guide, ive looked in the haynes manual cant find it!!

why?? its not hard, jack it up, brake lines off, drain fluid. drop it back down, boot carpet and back seats out, axle bolts off, jack the car up, and hey presto. fit new axle, reverse process and fit new brake lines as the old ones are prob fucked, fluid in, bleed system, hey presto.

Do you have to take the brake lines off? Can you not remove the calipers seperately?

is a hasle, and if you have a full built axle, then no point, only time ive done it its been drums to discs, so full axle change.

it may be easy to some people, not to others. my dads an educated guy, don't know anyone better as a property dealer but he'd be hard pushed to change a wheel on a car, whereas i'll tackle anything mechanical, wheeled or tracked but haven't got a clue about houses. guy is asking for help,thats all.

true my mate called me up because he couldnt work out how o change his wheel funny times you can just take the calipers off if your not doing a drum conversion it wouldnt take that long buy a haynes or if not ask a mechanic a favour lol

Steve-VTS did a guide IIRC. Search his name under the seach box and have a look at some of his old threads. If you know exactly what your doing with 2 people you can have it done in just over an hour, if you don't or if you're by yourself it becomes a right pain in the arse.

I did mine a week ago. Took me around 2 days (6 hours or so each day), so say 12 hours. That was taking it at a leisurely pace, and I always put my tools down and can't find them for ages  .
It is fairly simple, I didn't remove any brake lines though, I just simply took the wheel bearings off and removed the 4 allen bolts that holds the brake calliper (its like a big square shape). Then I just dropped the axle down and left the rest of the lines including the calliper on the car.
I did have to swap everything over though including hubs, arms, new trailing arm bearings etc. I also put polyrace beam mounts in as I was doing it. It looks so much better now though, and no play in the arms what so ever..

jack the car up on jacking points at rear
remove boot carpet and fold down rear seat bench
remove all 4 oval shaped rubbers
underneath undo too brake hoses connected to the bias valve (be careful they like to round off) i saw a good trick of putting bleed nipple rubber on the brake lines you removed to stop fluid leaking everywhere
then undo 4 bolts holding axle up
lower down gently trying not to brake the tank breather off
the drag it out and do the same to put it back on
