this is why i'm not sure. because i'm after a de-cat pipe and the catalogues say 96-00 dont have a sensor in the cat. but i dont know if the second sensor came with the mk2 or the year 2001!
i am askin on here as i dont have access 2 a ramp, and therefore cant take a pic of it!

open bonnet, look at ecu. if it has one large plug going into it then 1 sensor. if the ecu has 3 small plugs then its got 2 sensors, or just look if you have the cat under the manifold
