Saxo VTS Siezed Cams

Hi Folks

I'm beginning to not love my VTS anymore after it came to a grinding halt!!!

I have recently fitted new cambelt, tensioner and water pump, so when it stopped I reckoned I had goofed the belt tension of something and broken a belt.

Anyway after stripping the top end I found that the belt was fine, but the inlet cam had seized, which jumped the belt and of bent a few valves, lovely!!! NOT

On closer inspection I thought I had pushed the camshaft oil seals in too far back into the head, which looked like they were blocking an oilway at the front of the cam.

Ok, so I thought that was the problem, put it all back together with a spare head and carefully set the oils seals further forward.

2 mins running and it seized again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fcuk

I don't remember the oil light coming on when it first seized, but that said I was only going slow, and I know that sickening feeling/sound of a belt breakage and just pulled over.

So, can the oil pump chain snap? Do Oil pumps just stop working.

If the pressure light hadnt come on then there must be a blockage in the block somewhere... Starving the feed to the head but keeping pressure in the block by the sensor... Or the sensor dont work...

Oh...

Yes the oil pump chains can snap, not normal but have seen it before but will cause a loss of block oil pressure... And yes they can stop working but a loss of block oil pressure will result again

Thanks, current plan is to take the cams out and crank the motor and see if anything is going up to the head, if not off with the sump.

Do the pumps ever get blocked?

Its possible, but surely the oil changes will be more regular than that... Filter would block first

Don't forget, there's pressure and there's flow.

Cams are under the most strain at idle.

Hmm, both seizes were at low revs or idle, so you may have something there!
I have just fitted a new quality oil filter, so maybe the strainer to the pump is blocked?
