Default My new car, with pics.

Hi all.
Bought an Audi A4 2.0L a few weeks back, after my 206 cam belt went.
The car was £800. 2 litre petrol, 2001 reg with 156,000 on the clock. Full MOT, lots of service history, interior is immaculate, exterior has a few minor blemishes but nothing spectacular.

Full Bose sound system, which was a factory option, and is a highly impressive sound system, with speakers in all the doors, tweeters in the top of the dash and a sub and amp built into the section under the rear seats.

Beautiful car, great performance and very smooth and quiet. Some pics below.

Let me know your thoughts.

Cheers for the comments.
Yeah, the wheels aren't the best. They're the original ones. Will look at replacements next payday.

Any suggestions for a nice set? What would look good?

Yeah, you're probable right. Pointless spending money other than for maintenance on an £800 car.

Just had a cam belt and water pump fitted over the weekend, and like you said, just gonna enjoy the comforts and keep it clean.

it's a SE, don't change the wheels or the ride will suffer. Better to invest in 4 x michelins as they are 50 a corner in that size on camskill.

Check all the oil breather pipes if that hasn't been done already, they get brittle with age. Keep a bottle of oil in the boot because that engine drinks a top up every 700 miles on average, and that's about it.

Cheers, Manu. I'd read about this engine getting through oil.
The tyres are very good at the mo, won't need changing for a long time.
50 per corner? Seems cheap.
Had bits of work done over the weekend, and the mechanic said everything engine-wise was pretty tidy.

yeah camskill does that size really cheap, fitted them at the local ATS and the boys had a collective jaw drop moment when I told them the price. Them michelins really do make a difference in the car's handling and MPG. Look at the price, OE Audi spec, it's ridiculous:

http://www.camskill.co.uk/m53b0s7813..._65R15_OE_Audi

cheaper than the old saxo

Had a chat with my mechanic about the oil the other day, as he's got the same car and same engine. Depends how hard you drive and what sort of journey. You can squeeze 1.500+ miles between top ups on motorway miles, less so on short trips with a cold engine.

the big one is the cam belt/water pump/tensioner really, front of the car has to come off etc, everything else is easy to do. Only thing else I can think of is the Audi VAG recall on the coils. Audi replaced mine + complimentary full check + "software update", all free while I sipped hot drinks reading the financial times on a leather sofa.

Had the cam belt, water pump and tensioner done last week at my local independent garage. Charged me £280, which I was happy with. He's a brilliant mechanic and never over-charges or bodges anything.

With the VAG coils, it might be that it's already been sorted, with the car being 14 years old.

Audi can afford to give you free coffee in their "lounge", and a free check of the car. That's partly why they tend to be expensive when you have to pay. You really can't beat some complimentary goodies in their lounge though!

I did appreciate being there and being treated with courtesy. As opposed to some other cowboy garages I have seen, including one ATS with a rookie fucking up my brakes and not admitting liability, as in it felt like spongebob was pressing the calipers.

£280 is good for a cambelt job considering the hassle that it is on the b6, where an audi garages would charge about 800 ish. I still go to them for parts, it's quick (always within 24 hours or less), you get genuine parts and sometimes it's often surprisingly cheap and even cheaper than aftermarket parts.

Wow, hadn't realised a cam belt job would be as expensive at Audi.
Will definitely be sticking with my local garage.

Also surprised by some of the prices of parts people have paid on the Audi forum I joined.

Yeah that's about it, but mainly because audi charges about 90 odd quid per hour for labour.

Yeah again, I was surprised with the price parts and speedy delivery. My mum wants to get rid of her renault now because hers is fucking expensive to run in comparison, even if I did most jrepairs on it so far. Lately got quoted £100 for a single window switch, because it was orange instead of £20 black. Got a rebate from that renault parts shop after I told the guy I get a set of 4 double contact switches from audi for £20.

Audi are strange when it comes to part prices to be honest.

Some will give you an absolute heart attack (£500+ for an RS4 front grill being a good example), whereas other times I go in and i'm pleasantly surprised when I get handed a bill for under £15.

Do agree that the service you get when you go in is second to none - that's a difference that I do appreciate. The salesmen and mechanics always pop out for a look over mine when i'm in, again - its nice that they take an interest. Used to get on really well with the parts manager and got decent discount as a result but unfortunately he's moved on recently

Yeah I did a full front and rear set on the b7 - £2100 or something. Then got bummed on the RS6 for a front set - £800.

At least with a new car I have a year or so before pads, and hopefully wont do discs at all before it goes back
