About 2 weeks ago my '00 VTR has started to occasionally idle between 2,000 and 2,500 and sometimes on other occasions die and cut out. I could be stopped, and the revs will jump up. Sometimes it only lasts for 10 - 15 seconds other times I have to switch off the engine and restart it. More dangerously if im moving off or moving slowly in traffic they also sometimes shoot up causing the car to jump forward so I would have to be on the ball with the clutch to avoid being in the boot of the car in front.

Anyone got any ideas? Tell me it's not the ECU!

i dont know whether this will help but one of my mates has got a 206 XSi with the same problem, he took it to Peugeot and it turned out to be the inlet manifold.

Yeah thats exactly it. Its very difficult to start it back up sometimes, and it feels like its not getting enough fuel through or not firing on all cylinders or something. I might try Citroen and see what they say, there is a garage not far from where I live. Hopefully it acts up when I get it to them!!

Ill let you know if I get any news on it.

dude, it sounds like two things...

* stepper motor - the thingie that measures the degree of how open is butterfly (the gate that opens when you push the gas pedal to let the air in). Its located in the back side.
or
* at the very same place there is a sensor that I dont know what it does but the people at Citroen cleaned it because of a similar problem.

you never know...

Sorry about the delay lads but just to update you I eventually got it sorted, the garage thought it was the stepper motor too but when they hooked up the diagnostics it turned out to be an intermittent fault on the coolant temperature sensor.

Thanks for the help.
