Filler and pro detailers...
I was having a word with my old man last night regarding my new car and the fact that it does have a few scratches that I want to remove on the bonnet. He said there must be some form of product that you can get that will fill the scratch and effectively protect while making it "un-see-able" to the human eye.
Because of this I thought I'd make a post and see if this is true. While it wont be the best option in the long run for the short run (While it is Winter) I thought it best to fill the gap and then in the summer have all the scratches removed by a professional detailer.
This leads me onto removing the scratches. If I don't do it myself do you think a body shop would remove the scratches?
Cheers.

I've also been looking at the Halfords touch up kits (In particular this one.)
What do you think of these kits, I mean, do they do a good job at touching up scratches and stone chips?

Decided I am not going to fill the scratches but get a respray of the bonnet some point early next year.
Until then I am looking at masking the problems with some form of filler such as a wax. I can get rid of the swirl marks myself at some point but until then I need some form of filling solution.
Any thoughts?

When you want a respray let us know matey. My mate does spraying in eversley, he is good and competetively priced!

Will do matey, in the mean time can you ask him for roundabout price for a respray of a bonnet and some touch up paint around the bumpers (A few scratches in the bumpers that could do with a bit of touch up paint -- would prefer it profressionally done). ?
Picking me car up this Saturday, going to spend Sunday cleaning her and getting rid of all swirl marks caused by incompetent cleaners -- arG. Going to need some heavy elbow grease so if you haven't anything planned on Sunday you're welcome to give me a hand -- mwahaha!

To fill (rather remove) defects you need a glaze before the final product. The best glaze I do in terms of hiding power is Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze. It is good at hiding fine swirls and scratches, but note that no product will hide deeper swirls and scratches.

Yeah, they helped me out big time on my old Furio.
I think I will leave the scratches on the bonnet until I have a respray and get rid of the swirl marks by hand.
*Ponders on weather this weekend*

You will more than likely not need a respray on the bonnet unless the paint layer is actually damaged. A respray is not usually the best way to go as alot of the time it could be polished out using a porter cable polisher, if not then a rotary would do the job.

they might, chances are they will make it worse though. i have yet to come across more than 1 body shop that can actually machine polish to an acceptable standard, they all do it too quickly, use too harsh a compound and dont follow up with a finer grade of polish, hence leaving buffer trails all over the panel/s.
Get pics up of the scratches in question and we can advise you further iy you need

Thanks PB,
I would think that I can get the swirl marks out (As they are only light) with the IP method.
In the future I will have to give the bonnet a respray as the scratches are quite harsh.
