I have had my VTR for 1 year now, and I have had this problem since around xmas time that I cant seem to solve. My engine will sometimes fail to start in the morning, stalls when I'm driving along and then fails to restart.
It cut out on me thursday and had to call the AA out to get me home. The bloke reckons that my MFU relay need replacing as there is only 5 volts getting to my fuel pump, my imobiliser light kept coming on and my inertia switch was working correctly.
I have replaced the MFU and it has improved things, but still stalls now and again. I have cleaned my plugs too.
I know that this problem can be solved by replacing the idle control valve, I have cleaned it but it still happens and surley it would happen more frequently.
I have an idea that my engine is starved of fuel in some way, but i just dont know.
Any replies to this would be gratefullt recieved.

This is a fairly common thing... my car also suffers from this from time to time...

Does it stall when you depress the clutch to stoipp at a set of traffic lights, etc? Or does it stall whilst accelerating?

When it fails to start in the morning, is the immobilser light flashing?

It does it at that many different situations its hard to tell. It stalls when it likes, accelerating, stuck in traffic, traveling at 70mph on the motorway!
The immobiliser light does not come on when i try to start it in the morning. Thinking of running a diagnostic check through the ECU. Its getting to the point of me avoiding driving it!

If its stalling whilst accelerating thats dangerous!

Mine tends to stall if its hot... but only when approacging traffic lights, etc.

I noticed my rev counter was dying yesterday whilst trying to accelerate.. looks like my coil pack may be on its last legs?

The usual symptoms of stalling are MAP sensor, lambda probe, throttle position sensor.. but yours sounds a bit more severe?

Have you changed your fuel filter, as it could be starvation?

Ensure your MAP sensor is firmly held in place... and no leaks around its sealing face.
