dude that normally happens when your battery power is low or must be something wrong with the cigarette light port

All i can suggest is to check the connections and make sure all connections are correct and not made any silly mistakes.....also check batter power....upgrade to 16v

ok cheers..
we had the idead that maybe hes wired it to the light on the ciggy lighter..which only comes on when his headlights are off.. which maybe draws the power fron the footwells

it's just a whole new battery...about £40quid!.....it MAYBE the battery. Tell ur mate to get a 16v....or even a 12v will do. aslong as it's got power in it!
or ring up a local car electrician and ask him or her over the phone....!

also. if you do need a car electrician, just go down to a car garage and ask the manager/owner if you can get a number of there electrician. Most garage's don't do the electrical work when they are repairing cars....they get a car electrician! (sly bastards!)
