Suspension shudder/clunk

Ok Peeps,

My suspension has been knackered for a long time... which gave a whole range of clunks, bangs and the like when cornering and going over bumps, accelerating/braking, etc..

A few weeks ago I replaced virtually the whole front suspension... New shocks, wishbones, ARB link rods, track rod ends, ball joints, springs.

The only components that have not been replaced are the wheel bearings and the drive shafts.

NOW, the suspension setup is great and the ride is back to how it should be... no clunks or groans, etc driving around town.

BUT, I still have a nasty "snap" which happens when I accelerate REALLY hard. Its a judder and can actually snap out of gear! The movement happens on the passenger side of the car.

I know this would typically be an engine mount, but the lower gearbox mount is uber-tight! I've removed the battery and tightened the top box mount. (maybe a little too tight actually?)

SO, unless the top gearbox mount is actually sheared, what else could be causing this annoying/dangerous clunk/judder.

My only other thoughts are along the lines of driveshafts slipping (surely not) OR something major is about to fail with the paddle clutch.

The wishbone/floor bolts are also super tight.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

I'm no expert but it could be your nearside driveshaft UJ making the racket.

Could be the driveshaft.. they are original!!

Someone on the SSC forum has suggested it could be the diff' about to give way.

maybe time to get the box off and inspect before it explodes and takes somehting else with it

Ok! i've had the diff go! big style! resulting in clonking noise left right and centre still got the remains of my diff if anyone really wants to see!

know what happens is the plante gears in the diff housing wear! this is due to bigger wheels and hard acceleration in the low end gears! resulting in teeth slowly wearing leaving metal folting around the box!

easist way to find out if its the diff is jack one side of the car up better on the NS but it in gear and rotate the wheel see if you can feel any play! then repeat with it in 1st and 2nd gear! if excessive play the plante gears could be on there way out

Or you could just drop your gear box oil and any bits in it that shouldn't be there then panic

its your call then if you strip the box apart or not!

but let me know cause if you do it yourself its a bitch to break the box due to the reverse bar and pin!

Well, Im going on holiday next week, so dont think I'll be doing much just yet.

I plan to take the car back to GMC in a month or so to have some mapping done... so I will have it diagnosed/sorted when Im there.. provided 'it' lasts that long

My gearbox was making a really LOUD clunk on idle today, when the revs dropped low... like when it tries to stall

my suspension is makin a few too many clonks and groans, ever since I got the bastard lowered by a set of cowboys =/, fancy commin to re-new my steerin set-up simo? ....make a few "how to's" for the premium members for maintenance etc next time u do somethin, maybe i'd be tempted to join
