Between the head unit and the plug do the yellow and red wires have a connector? If so try swapping them over.... red from plug end to yellow from HU end.

On some cars/head units for the memory to work the red and yellow wires need to be swappped over, if yours is like this then the red and yellow wires will have a bayonet plug between the back of the unit and the plug. Simply swap them over so the red wire goes into the yellow connector and the yellow wire into the red connector. What head unit is it?

My JVC with usb is like this.

Yep, give it a try...won't do any damage. They are both lives, one is switched the other constant. If there is shrink tube in the middle of the wires the connector is in there, just swap these over.

what colour wires would they match uo to on the old wires that go to car...as the ones from car are green and yellow....thin grey /thin blue/ thick grey so its finding which of them should be the yellow and red for the new stereo if you know what i mean...as tried plugging the old plug straight into new stereo and it wouldnt keep memory...so was gonna use new plug and wire to the old coloured wires..

Leave the wires from the car alone, the only ones you need to swap are from the back of the radio to the black or white plug. The plug with 8 wires is the speakers, no need to touch this one either.

See where the shrink tube is in the middle of the red and yellow wires? That is where I can change mine over.

If yours doesn't have these connectors then you are going to have to:
A) Put some in
B) Change the pins over in the plug

Mine has the same, these are the standard plugs, the wires from the car are the same as yours. You can see the black plug on the right hand side of the photo, the plug from the car with the thick and thin grey wires etc is plugged into this.

The memory needs a constant live, yours is getting the switched, so every time you switch off the memory gets wiped.

Default some help i hope

The standard wiring is usually something along the lines of

Grey Wires = Lives (one is permanent and one is switched)
Blue = Illumination
Black or Green/Yellow = Earth

The rest are speaker wires

The positive will just be a colour and the negative will be a colour with a black line down the wire

Aftermarket wiring is something like this

Red = Switched Live
Yellow = Permanent Live
Orange = Illumination
Black = Earth
Blue or Blue/White = Remote (for amps)

The rest are speaker wires

The positive will just be a colour and the negative will be a colour with a black line down the wire

If the headunit loses its settings then swap the yellow and red over
