sorry if this isnt in perfect order but its hard condensing over a years worth of updates into one.

at some point i'd also fitted some gti 6 calipers as i wasnt happy wit hthe 266 jobbies.

now back to the hard shoulder.

after taking the box off and replacing my crank seal tho there was nothing wrong with it in the end and fitting a clutch we got the car running but there was an untraceable oil leak that was making my drive a rightmess, i'm talking puddles a foot accross so something had to be done. i bought a gti engine with a supposed 90k for 140 quid and planned to rebuild it.

the car was loosing oil but still pulling like a train and one day on the way home from work one of the heater matrix pipes i'd bodged together with a joiner gave up on me and i lost all my coolant whilst gunning it. i didnt realise at first as there was no sudden increase in temps.

i got the car home in a right state and left the hose pipe spraying onto tghe rad thinking i'd broke the fan later i disocvered the split pipe. so after replacing the pipe and trying to start the car one it'd cooled the starter screamed al mighty death and that was it as far as we were concerned, engine seized game over!

this was a kick up the arse to say theleast so it was learn to build an engine time.

mistake number........ well not number one thats for sure, i did my best to get it all right, bought any tools i needed, new shels for the mains and big ends, new crank seals, new water pipes i spent a fortune, since the engine died a death i've put knocking on for a grand into the car, genuine drive shafts, the works.

i got the engine built up and it looked like this

then while i was waiting on bits i took the beam off and whacked in some polyrace bushes, new rear calipers, bias valve and new lines.

when the time came to start the car, it started fine, ran for just over a min, died and that was it. starter couldnt turn it, bumpstarting it couldnt turn the engine. turns out the rings were too big and it would seem that the shells were too tight. gutted. so i decided i could do two things, sit and cry about it or crack on and sort it, been short of cas another engine was out the question so i decided not to take the 1.4 out of the furio on my drive but to put the old bottom end on with the new head and amazingly after a bit of faffing it runs. not driven it yet as i'm waiting on some rear brake lines from swapmy. so we'll see how it holds up.

now not been one to go right thats it lets enjoy it, ive been planning more stuff and that brings me to

home made poly carb rear window! made it today with my new jigsaw i'm pretty chuffed with it but i plan to put a vent in it to duct air into the cabin as it gets too stuffy for my liking.

also i decided that i was bored of having a 106 with a saxo dash and it was getting replaced, with...... a roll cage bar! like the rs tuning clio and i'll make a neat box to cover the heater box and controls and stuff.

now as i cant afford a digital dash and i dont let stuff like funds hold me back i took some digital vtr dials and modified them, not just wiht plasma dials which were already there but by modifying the shroud

thats gonna be the total thickness of the dial unit and i've started making a polycarb cover for the front too

dont worry its just rested in place its not finished yet but sunday dinner was a calling.

thats about it for now i might add more pics in a bit but enjoy.

comments/questions welcome

oh, onto the cage next. everyone wants a cage that avoids the dash, no one wants to offer a good enough price for it so its getting modified and welded in i think. i also have a novel idea for some beam bracing that will add a bit more weight over the rear and keep the COG low

few other bits

i got my old angel eyes back, when it gets warmer i plan to spray the insides gloss black

also means i can run hid's in the full beam

rear mounted washer bottle to help weight distribution, honest

and yes although my car is white the floor is black throughout

as you can see the ecu has been relocated, i was originally going to put it in the car but with plans to remove the dash it'd be a bit unsightly so i modified the battery tray slightly to become an ecu tray

you can also just see the 23.8mm master cylinder which is from an abs model and means i have only 2 pipes now that both t peice to the relevant calipers and meant i can run one line from MC thru to the bias valve and then t peice it at the back to go down to the rear calipers. hopefully now the car will brake in a straight line. compensators and sticky calipers suck

Few things.
1. Looked 100000000000x better stickered up, you know I think that.
2. Wonder who your mate was that bought your VTR engine, musta been a good person to buy it so you could have a valver, and then even supply you with some angel eyes.
3. You're gay.

Think that's everything.
Oh yeah, I haz found some blue vinyl on my headlight. Want it back for when you, you know, sticker it back up like it used to be.

unfortunately just standard cams mate. i had to pull out of a newmanns group buy as work decided to drop the bombshell that we were going onto 4 day weeks til business picks up so i decided blowing a couple of hundred quid on something i didnt really need was a bit silly. if the pulleys look like verniers their not, their just standard ones with the centre painted and the outers cleaned and polished, i had time to kill one evening and got all blue peter.

right, todays updates, i had a walk up to the post office, yes its true we do still have post offices, to pick up a mysterious packet that arrived when we were out. it turned out to be my braided brake lines for the back of the car as i had a leaky copper one. so todays plan was to get them in, managed it, got the brakes bled up which was a bit of a faff. also the lines are a bit twisted due to me been unsure if i could slacken the right angle fittings slightly to spin em around to line up properly, but i'm impressed woith the quality.

also got my pugsport back on and managed to straighten my lower brace once more, sparco ones are dog shit, so dont buy one if your on the look out. it's been brayed straight 4 times now after bending on the first drive out.

then i decided to check the car still ran ok and when i went to start it it didnt want to so either the battery has gone flat again, which is rather odd, or the starter is fooked. so i'm considering going up the shop to buy a gti6 battery in a min as it should have no probs starting the car and powering 3 sets of hid's at the same time

a few pics of the brake lines that turned up. i got em off a lad called swampy, i dont know if he's on here. he takes the orders and their made up y a company called exact. the line doesnt have rubber coating on like on good ridge but as their insite the car i dont forsee it been a problem

i'm sure you can see where their a bit wonky, like a wonky donkey! but its not a major issue, i want to get the car back on the road for now tbh and enjoy it

well as always good news and bad

the good, i've driven it, it sounds like a bag of shit, well, more like a bag of spanners tho
it appears to grip like shit to a blanket
it feels rather fooking fast!

bad news,
i have the worlds dickiest starter motor. needs replacing, this'll be number 4 lol
somehow i'd got my hazard and rear demister plugs wrong way around so i only had indicators whilst holding down the heated window switch, this plan wasnt great as i stikll didnt have front and rear indicators, infact, for all i know it could have just been my arroms on the dash flashing at me

oh and the killer of all killers, it would appear that the back of the car is filling with brake fluid! its all i can think it could be as its not rained in days now. so i still have dodgy brakes! not good, not happy.

cheers. i've ordered a new starter for it earlier and i managed to sort the indicators. might give it a good clean tomorrow but its also very nice to know why i'm doing all this, that little drive made it all worth while.
