I think that cos the VTR is less powerful than the VTS, then the R would stand 4 Road and the S would stand for Sport, as they arent really Racing cars, more like Rally ones...
The VT might not stand for nothin, dont seem like it 2 me...

Yea, i kinda wanna no now that someones actually asked!
Its abit like Mitsubishi UK and their Britain only FQ models! They tried convincing their Jap bosses that it just meant Fine Quality, but we all know that it doesn't mean that! I mean, w/330bhp on tap in a pretty damn close 2 bein bck 2 basics car, do u think it would mean Fine Quality? I think it means Fcukin Quick!!!!!

For what I know VT in VTR/VTS stands for Vitesse which means fast or speed in french. The R and S mean Racing and sport, which are used randomly for as far as I know.

This has been talked about for years, and I believe nobody really knows what the names stand for...
Interesting guessing though

but who says that racing cars have to be faster than sports cars? a sports car could easily be classed as a racing car or vice versa
or what about smaller capacity racing cars that are slower than "sports" cars?

I still stand by wot i said tho, i tink its its just confusin as nly the Brits n the Yanks have the VTS & VTR, while other countries have other names, such as Portugal has the VTS(1.4 & 1.6 8v i think, my bro nos more bout it) then above it is the Cup(the 1.6 16v)
In other countries they have VTS 1.4 then VTS 1.6 8v, then VTS 16v and the same in pretty much most opther countries...
Its cos the Brits have 2 different, just look at the side of the road thats driven on ovr here, then the rest of the world(pretty much the rest) is on the opposite side!

Here is your answer guys. We discussed this a couple of times on our dutch forum and this was the outcome.Alos someone mailed this question to Citroen France.
VTR = Voiture Tres Rapide
VTS = Voiture Tres Sportive.
