Default Dashboard Warning Lights - A Guide - See Owner's Handbook for full descriptions

Digital Display in Speedometer

On switching the ignition on, the display will show in turn:
- Maintenance indicator [spanner icon]
- Engine oil level indicator
- Total mileage recorder

Spanner Icon - Maintenance indicator

Displays the number of miles to be covered before the next service. If continuously lit this indicates that a service is due shortly. If it flashes then this indicates you have exceeded the service distance.

Engine Oil Indicator [Looks like an “F” to the right of the digital clock]

When the ignition is switched on, the maintenance indicator is displayed for several seconds followed by the engine oil level for approximately 10 seconds.
Max = oooooo
Min = 0_ _ _ _ _
Shortage = _ _ _ _ _ _

The indicator will flash if there is a problem with its operation.

Coolant Temperature Gauge & Coolant Temperature Warning Lamp - Lower left-hand corner gauge

If the needle enters the red zone, or if the warning lamp comes on, stop immediately, switch engine off – the cooling fan may continue to operate for a period after switching off – and allow to cool…

Engine Oil Temperature - Lower right-hand corner gauge

The gauge should be in the white sections. In no event should it go past the red zone. If it does, slow down and, if necessary, stop the engine and check the levels.

Fuel Gauge

When the low level warning light comes on continuously with the vehicle on level ground, there remains approximately 4 litres of fuel in the tank.

Lamps across the bottom of the Dashboard from left to right

1. Front passenger’s airbag deactivation warning lamp
2. Electronic immobiliser ignition key. Comes on when switching the ignition on. Goes out when the electronic immobiliser device is unlocked. If the lamp remains on, an audible warning sounds to indicate that there is a problem with the operation of the electronic immobiliser device.
3. Dipped beam
4. Main beam
5. Front foglamps
6. Rear foglamp(s)
7. Battery charge. Should not be lit when the engine is running.
8. Handbrake and low brake fluid level warning. If the warning lamp remains lit when the handbrake is released, check your brake fluid level.
9. Anti-lock braking system
10. Engine oil pressure. If it lights while you are driving, stop the engine, check the oil level.
11. Front air bag warning lamp
12. Diesel pre-heater
13. Engine Auto-diagnosis [Malfunction Indicator Lamp – MIL, Engine Warning Lamp]. If it flashes or lights while the engine is running, it indicates a fault within the fuel injection, ignition or anti-pollution (emissions) systems.

The problem is that
1 My Saxo has begun to get difficult to start. Mostly after running for a bit.
I have changed the plugs, a while ago, and the air filter and now put in a dose of injector cleaner.
I am about to change the fuel filter. Any other ideas?
2 The instruments (speed'o, tacho', fuel etc) have stopped working!Does anyone have ideas about this?Do you think it can have anything to do with the Difficult starting or ias it just a coincedence?It is my son's car and I think the instruments are a recent thuing whilst the starting has been going fior a while.

The horn & airbag have no relation to each other.
