Default Engine Mounts

Hi

I've been looking for engine mounts for a while.. All i can hear is a fat hole in the joint of my exhaust pipe.

I know what mount it is, its the rear one as thats where the engine rocks. I was just thinking whats th best way about going to replace this? Take the engine out (Could do cambelt at same time as its due?) or put the engine on a jack with axel stands and do it that way?

Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan

You mention two things in your first sentence, exhaust and engine mount, so not sure what the problem is?

If you are looking to change the rear engine mount, then you can undo it completely without any problems as the other two will still be holding it in place. By loosening the other two just a little bit, you will be able to tip the engine to some extent in order to allow you to get to the rear mount.

Yo may find that the bottom mount has just come a bit loose and just needs tightening up. You do not need to take the engine out to do engine mounts, in the same way that you don't have to with a cambelt change either.

Good luck, give us a shout if any probs.

Get a block of wood put it on the trolley jack then ease it under the sump the wood will stop you damaging the sump & jack up to support the weight when you have the mount off (the way we did it in the garage)

Cheers mate. Reped

I mean as the engine mount has like got weak/ fallen out when my engine leans back due to the acceleration of the engine and when i take my foot off the gass, the engine goes to the vertical postion coz theres no gass. in turn over the past weeks this has damaged a joint in my exhaust and has tore it apart. I keep filling it but t keeps wrecking it. Just when you accelerate and de-accelerate it clunks.

I'm ordering a new rear engine mount tommorow from Bedford battery so will be doing that over the week end.

Your idea dose make sence, had a word with father and he said he was planning to do it that way any way.

Cheers

Okay Dan, sounds like a plan.

Forget about repairing the exhaust until you have got the engine mount sorted out. If you do loosen the other two engine mounts to give it a bit more movement, then remember to do them back up afterwards!

As Steve says, you may want to put something underneath the sump just in case, and for peace of mind.

Good luck.

Got the wrong engine mount yesturday, took it back and got the right one now. My current engine mount is descolated, i mean theres nothing left of it compared to the new one.

Do i need to have a press to push the rubber mount into the frame? or do they slot in easily?

Thanks
Dan
