Scratches - Saxperience

Right guys i have a patch on the car that is pretty scratched. they are not deep theres just alot of them in one area about 20cm x 20cm.

Ive tried a spot pad on the UDM and some Menz cutting polish and some SSP 2.5 and it wont get rid of it.

Any advice?

I take it you are using menzerna intensive polish mark??

Have you tried using a menzerna 70mm spot pad?? That imo would be worth trying.

If that doesnt work i would either ask someone with a rotary to buff it or try abit of wetsanding.

yep to the menzerna intensive polish

not tried the menzerna pad, i have tried THIS but it didnt do much atall. Its ok for light swirls but nothing else imo

Me and chris205 did a yaris liek this long scratches not too deep and tbh a dual action wasnt doing much, rotary did the job just fine though, still didnt get a few out, paint depth gauge is needed on how much you can take off

could be worth selling up th dual action and getting a silverline rotary, i got one for about 45 quid, an iuse 3m polish it works so well and makes it so much easier tht dual action, althugh i like dual action on some car parts epecially plastics

The sonus pads imo are crap, far to soft a pad.

What you need for a heavy scracthed area is a cutting pad, polishing spot pad won't do anything if at all, menzerna spot pads are where it's at if you want to use a spot pad, i just use spot pads on smaller areas, use big pads for the main big areas, just prefer them, you defintely need to step up to a cutting pad on intensive polish if it at cutting it, what speeds you using the udm on by the way? is the pad rotating enough or how much pressure are you putting on the polisher?

hi mate.im a car valeter. at our place we get rid of most scratches with a product called g1,2,3 made by autoglym or sumthing but there really good and get most scratches out.the higher the number the more ruffer the compound ie. g2.......g3 etc g3 being the hardest

Agree with Wayne, Used my Menz cutting pad and it made my scratches dissapear completely v impressive.

is the menzerna one J222 posted a cutting pad?

Im using the UDM on 1-2 to spread the polish then 5-6 for the majority of time until the polish is worked in, correct?

Yes it is mark,

White ones are compound,

The orange ones are polishing

The menz spot pads are awesome mark and very cheap.

also, i have run out of Menzerna cutting polish. ive had some 2.5 SSR for a while so was thinking id use this up. Any opinions on this?

there the same compound of pad but different sizes, its just that spot pads give way better spot repairs imo

The backing plate you would need for the small pads is 70-75mm diameter backing plate, heres a link

edit: poorboys compounds are very good, however i personally only use the menzerna range and some chemical guys compounds. Im sure wayne is more familiar with the poorboys range.

Your backing plate is too big mark, 3.5" is 88.9mm and menzerna spot pads are only 80mm diameter. The backing pad you have is meant for the sonus spot pads which are 100mm diameter.

The difference with the 2 pads in the links is,

the ones from elite car care are 80mm diameter.

the ones from cleanyourcar are 135mm.

The way i do it is spread at 1 to work in polish, then up to speed 4 to do the bulk of the work then up to 5 and back down to 2 to refine hope that helps

poorboys polish aren't bad but i prefer to use Menzerna range which is much better, like Intensive 3.02 or Menzerna 203, Menzerna 85re finishing polish, pads wise i use 3M, menzerna, Megs and sonus and Gloss-It pads, Menzerna compounding pad is the white one, orange one is a polishing pad and the yellow one is a finishing pad, Menzerna 3.02 on a compounding pad will deal with your scracthes
