cant decide whether to go for the 550d + kit lens... or buy d3100 body then separately buy a good lens?

budget £600.

what you reckon?

not sure what OS means... and does how it fit your hands actually make a big difference? the bridge camera i have now is chunky and not very ergonomically designed but like most things after a while you get used to it and it hasnt stopped me from taking great pictures.
