Still no update with this unfortunately.
The KMS is being temperamental for unknown reasons and has so far refused to communicate with any mapping equipment thats been tried on it
Fingers crossed for an update soon after a bit of ringing around and thanks to Josh for offering use of his computer if needed

Update
Monday 7th April
Still no luck getting the car running smoothly.
When warm and driving along theres no real problem
However, on tick over and startup its running bloody awful. Stepper motor was diagnosed as knackered and it couldnt be moved by hand, so its been replaced with a new part.
Still the problem is the same. Eventually all of the loom wiring was checked for signals from the ECU and there was none coming from the ECU to the stepper motor atall rendering it inactive
After more indept inspection its become apparent that there is NO PIN from the ECU going into the loom and therefore providing the necessary signals to enable the stepper motor to work and regulate the idle speed.
So i need to call GMC today and find out if theyve actually sent me the wrong ECU for the car, or whether its faulty.
Considering the KMS was supposed to be the easiest/most plug and play option available this is not a good start with nothing but problems.

The kms ecu is a generic standalone ecu, i dont think they are change for each car mate. Have you phoned gmc yet?

After going back up to xspec today to see the car (much more easy to understand whats going on from seeing/hearing it rather than just talking by phone) a few things are clear:
- There is 100% nothing signal/power wise reaching the stepper motor from the ECU
- Car runs perfectly when manually imitating the stepper motor and a steady idle/tickover is achieved, bloody smooth too, love it.
- Its the adapter loom which looks to be at fault as where the metal bits are that the ECU plugs into there is one which is pushed back (too far to pull back out, and not making contact with the ECU pin) if this is the contact point for the stepper motor signal/power to go from then this is the cause.
- Also theyre pretty confident that the basemap given on the ECU when it was bought has been given for a TB setup rather than standard TB bit the stepper motor in use
I should know later this afternoon exactly whats wrong, adapter loom being the primary suspect so far.
Ive also dropped off the standard ECU which is currently locked to the old cars immobiliser code. Hopefully this will be easy to unlock and can be tried on my car just to see if it will run fine then (obviously KMS adaptor loom is out of the equasion and all original contact points will be in place)
See how things go. Ill update later

sounds like your getting closer to fixing the problem then
the stanard ecu should be easy for them as theve had to sort all the software and codes out to remap mine

See how it does, the problem does seem to be in 'check' status now, assuming everything is clarified btween them and GMC about whether its the adaptor loom thats faulty or not then hopefully itll be 'check mate' and problem solved soon.
I can only hope. See what becomes of it later, im not anticipating a dramatic quick victory in getting it sorted, something else will no doubt go wrong lol just my luck of late

its the kind of thing that happens with a big project like this
the little details allways seem to cause the biggest problems

Yep there's always something and to be fair its a pretty massive project to take on. would have to be incredibly lucky to get something spot on straight away.
As i was saying to a few people at the weekend and to Graham earlier the most frustrating bit is that it took:
2 weeks to get the old engine out, engine pay painted, new engine in and getting it running the first time. That was all work done myself and by Laurie (gf's dad) just a few hours work per day aswel spare time.
And then since then its been nearly 7 weeks of just rubbish problem after problem which is out of my hands and capabilities.
The oil leak was an absolute pain, should never have occured had the place put the head/bottom end together with the timing right in the first place
Then the mapping has taken a while due to having to take the time finding out where the problem is and eventually identifying that its a faulty part thats been supplied. It happens to the best of us unfortunately but its such an inconvenience to all involved and a big drain on the finances.
Graham at Xspec has been immensely helpful and supportive throughout. Massive thanks to him
I just hope its every bit as worth it when i take it out for its first proper drive
