Default Saxo VTS Rallycar

Sooooo the swap i arranged between the Saxo VTS and the bmw didnt go to plan as the car was all rotten so then i have been looking for a standard vts with little to no rust... I still have the e36 for sale on ebay butttt Its hard to say that hasnt been easy. I finally found this on the trader local and it was unmodified and i couldnt see any rot at all (knew there would be a little due to the age but very suprised how clean it is !!.

So it cost me £700 and seems a bargain the engine is nice and is the body etc

Weight shedding has begun

Removed sound deadenig and the rear wiper motor etc etc, i will be running poly windows all around etc

I have started taking all the dash out and airbags.. Next the big thing is to get the cage in, the car is going to custom cages for a full weld in cage. I am starting with an almost standard ish enginefo learn to drive but change key other parts.

Is that rust on the rear arch?

She looks like a nice example of a standard saxo, seems a shame to rip her apart.

make sure you check underneath the ECU tray, its a common place for rust.

I don't think that shell is all that rust free, ive got a 106 on 155,000 and has no rot at all but tend to find early Mk2 Saxos suffer the worst, Should be able to catch that anyway so once it's sorted properly no need to worry. Looks a good base to work from will be watching

Little tip as I've just done it.

Heatgun for that sticky stuff your feet rest on. Then white spirit for the marks it leaves underneath

One timy patch doesnt bother me at all its mint compared to the other hinks of shyyyte that i went to see.

Yeah i used a heatgun for the sound deadening too i have the footwell to do . This car is soooooooo easy to do compared to my e36 !!!!!

You can see from the inside pics after i resprayed the inside and fixed 2 small patches.

It seems a nice base i had to buy the best i could find as if i crashed you dont want to be sat i a rust bucket that will just crumple. Its fine under the ecu and all around the front end that was my big worry.

I have rust in the same place in the inside arch area. Once its treated it will be fine.

Its nice that the car is kept dry now and will probably never see a wet road again (hopefully)

A bit more work has been done on the saxo this weekend, all the airbags have been removed. Little squeeky bum but its all out now phewwww !!

You dont need a passenger mirror so a bit more weight shreading !!

Still on with removing wiring ohhhhhh the fun

There is sooooooo much to do on the car but its slowly getting there. Lots of tidying up to do for the next big job the car is going to custom cages for a full weld in cage.

As you can see from the above the wiring is gettig thinner but its a pain to say the least but the more i get out the lighter the car will be what is whole aim. I dont need central locking in the car or the doors to lock.

Next job is dash out to really get the wiring skimmed down

Yeah not bad for £24 The car should be still structually sound. Yes bonnets help the structure but the chassis provides the bulk behind it and it should be fine im keeping all the crumble zones etc etc so it should be okay.
We have built 9 rallycars in the past all with these and touch wood they have been okay
