basically cuts the alternator charge to try and increase power.
wouldnt give much gains, and youd need to remeber to not use it all the time otherwise youll have no charge in the battery.
i personally wouldnt use one myself.

Sorry but I doubt it's "dodgy" specially from GMC Motorsport.

I don't mean GMC are dodgy. I mean that it sounds dodgy because they tell you it gives more power when your on full throttle, people are most likely to keep planting there foot down trying to see if they can feel a difference and before you know it you have a flat battery!

don't see it as free power... see it as reducing parasitic losses from the Alternator.
Although I've never tested one, the theory sounds plausable

i cant see how it would work to be honest.
For starters there talking as if the electrical current from the altenator is being pushed out to all components etc to keep them working, However current is actually drawn so it would only use what it needs.
And on that basis that current is drawn you could say that if you turned everything off in your car you would gain bhp, What a load of bollox i dont belive a word of it

why wouldnt it work?? so turning the likes of air con on and off doesnt make a difference to power?? of course it does.. anything else running does sap power, dad used an electric water pump on his bike and it free'd up 1.5bhp, it was common for the class he was racing in was to remove the alternator completly to get more power

some cars have this as standard the alternator cuts out when the car is at throttle wouldnt and cant possibly work on a saxo because as soon as your alternator stops charging the power steering goes i know this as i was driving along my belt snapped and my power steering f**ked off so not quite sure how they will get around this?

I reckon if you asked them to prove a power gain of 5-15bhp they would happily RR'd it for you!

o it is amusing reading how people have a complete lack of knowlege on cars/engines etc.... and yet still feel they should make comments which have little or no basis upon them which can inform other members of the forum.
the alternator takes a charge from the engine, and so because it is running off of the engine to charge the battery this is increasing the load effectively on the engine which is not driving the wheels.
therefore the alternator and electical devices on a vehicle will drain power!!!
its one of the main reason fuel economy is reduced with lights on/AC etc...

look at it this way my little old 50cc mini moto had 4.5hp and could pull me along at happy speeds of upto 35mph at 14 stone so think of it like this i cant see your alternator taking away 4/5bhp from your engine 1. you can carry it with you hands 2. you can turn it with your hands so looking at it from this point of view. So the whole point of what im trying to get across do you think a little 3kg alternator what can be turned easily by hand power is going to make much strain on a 90/120bhp engine?
