Sorry I was travelling away from home. Engine should run good with the blue socket unplugged.

Re-tension the timing belt to set the pump timing back to centre. Only if you are confident.

Also make sure fuel filter has no water.

Check the fuel feed ( clear pipe ) has no bubbles. If there is bubbles there is a fuel leak.

If belt needs retensioning --then surely time to change it?--
must be very worn to cause a timing problem

The bolts which hold the pulley to the hub can slacken and cause the timing to move. It's far more critical than on a a petrol engine. Re-tensioning the correct way will set everything back to exactly 0.

I think the diesel pump is faulty internal.

If it runs good with no blue socket. Leave it disconnected.

Did you check the fuel line for leak?

You should not see any bubbles
