Saturday 10th November
Well i managed to get a few things done this afternoon after work as the darkness started to draw in.
First things first, The few original parts left on the car reached the grand old age of 100,000 miles, letter must be due from the queen and/or the Chief Exec of Citroen for the achievement..
Note that i was being a good boy and had pulled over
Secondly Lee_VTR kindly dropped my rocker covers back off to me today after he'd polished them up for me, he's done a good job even though he wasnt too impressed with the quality of the metal. Cheers though mate
As id got these back i thought it would be ideal to see how the Carbon coil pack cover looked fitted between them- typically with nothing being easy though:
The 6 bolts wouldnt fit all the way into the holes, no muck was in the cam cover holes, and the bolts were new parts with the exact correct part number. So i had to shave off a fair chunk of the thread.
Secondly the Coil pack cover didnt fit, there was parts that needed shaving back all round it, this took the best part of just over an hour to sort out- thank god for the Dremmel rotary tool!
Still the job was done and this is how it now looks:
Looking forward to receiving those badges this week now, should finish it off nicely with the yellow/black one. Also waiting on a new oil filler cap to arrive.
Last task of the day was to sort this out: what citroen describe as the distribution chamber. It was a mess, tried wire brushing the surface to get rid of the corrosion, also metal polish. polishing it with the dremmel worked to some effect but in the end i decided to paint it...
Before:
After:
sanded down all the surface corrosion with fine paper. The silver bit still needs cleaning up a bit before i refit it with new oil filter and seals etc

Nice updates Matt, the old 1.0 made it then lol!
Not too sure about the chrome rockers and the carbon coil pack. The two sort
of clash imo. Will have to see once its fitted.
I would of been really cheesed off with the fitting of the coil pack. You pay that
kind of money for it, it should be perfect!

Exactly my thoughts rested it in place to begin with , saw how far out it was and promptly unleashed a barrage of obsceneties- mother wasnt impressed.
Still i got it to sit flush in the end although rightly so for the amount it cost, and it was alot, it should be perfect.
Unsure of the polished covers too, it goes ok, but they dont compliment eachother perfectly. Not sure what else i could do with it, dont want black ad itll look dull and dont want yellow for fears of 'overdoing it'
Maybe i need to get a grip and realise that its just an engine? lmao who knows ey.
Next task is to buy a new alternator (old ones beyond mucky so may aswel buy a new one engine itself should be back this week sometime i think

apologies for the issues with cover Willsy, I will bring it to mervyns attention at Streamline, something you shouldnt have had to spend doing yourself. I will make sure he has an oe part to hand when he is trimming up in future, although from one point of view, at least there was more material left on as oppose to less if you get me. Once again my apologies.
I agree with the polished covers, have you considered doing maybe satin black ?

Yeah true, more material better than less, the main problem was where it rests on the top of the cam covers there was no groove/indent so it was fitting a good few mm proud with space to fit a flat blade under it.
Positive side is that i cant fault the weave of it

ah ok so it was more a case of the thickness of the tabs that locate in the cam cover grooves yeah ? I will pass this on to mervyn. How think are they now you have modifed it ?
The quality of weave is the nuts aint it ! lol
Good luck with rest of the build, and you are right these things never come easy mate.

Bic ill undo the cover again tomorrow and take a pic from a couple of angles then indicate using a red line the areas which i had to shave back a rouch.
should hopefully make it a little easier to relay the info back to Merv.
Cheers for the luck, ill need it soon once the old engine coems out, nervous times.
Hope yours is coming along well too.

Rockers and coil pack looks nice mate, but I think the rockers need to be painted and not polished.
