NEWS!
The place thats gt the engine at the moment called me today to say that the bottom end parts are all changed over, head and bottom end is all fully in tact now with sump attached.
All that needs doing now is the timing which wont take them long.
They want to know which is the correct timing seup for the camshaft pulleys.
Ive got vernier pulleys which fron the pic i had of them look to be setup as about 1.5 and 2.0 but theres no way of telling which one does on the exhaust side or the inlet side by looking at them.
Thanks to Josh he's got his as 1.55 as his inlet and 2.00 as his exhaust. Both are set as advanced.
Ill call QEP tomorrow as recommended by Josh to double or even triple check this before informing the engine place.
They also want me to drop off my flywheel aswel to attach that.
All being well im assuming they can get that sorted pretty quick in order to have the engine back at home on friday

That's brilliant news.
So once it's come home on Friday, is that it? Ready to put back together and fitted?

Great stuff Matt. What exactly did you have done to the bottom end? Just
strengthen it or replace worn parts?

Wouldn't worry too much about the cam timing. It will need to get tweaked on the rollers anyhow.

alright mate, good to hear its all coming together now. i pmd jaybiss back about your verniers. i set up the verniers to run 708s and tip-xed on the back which was inlet and exhaust. ( but i scrapped it off before selling)
inlet = retard this by about 1.5mm-2mm
exhaust = advance this by the same amounts

Still confused as to whether they're advanced or retarded.
But does this matter hugely at the moment then if itll be played with anyway?
The Cams themselves are both set at 1.55 by QEP- Matt at QEP said exhaust can go a bit higher which will give a higher top end, but he prefers a nice stable idle at 1.55 which they've found to be best.
Rushy the entire bottom end has had everything taken out, cleaned off properly, no old oil residue on it atall.
Bores have been glazebraked (think thats the correct term iirc) so theyre perfectly smooth.
New pistons and rings
New little end bearings, big end bearings
All other Crank bearings
all new seals
New water pump
So all this has been put back together with head gasket kit, cambelt kit and all pulleys, vernier pulleys on the camshafts.
Changed over all the old nuts and bolts for new ones aswel, insignificant perhaps but may aswel do a full job of it lol.

Further to the last once its back ill put it on the engine stand and start to apply the remaining bits.
Buying a new alternator and ive replaced all the bolts and cleaned up the brackets. Got a new belt for that also
Fit the cam covers, new spark plugs, coil pack and coil pack cover
Fit the inlet manifold and P&P TB, replacing all existing pipes.
Refit oil filter and the odd hose here and there.
Put the mounting brackets back on with the group N mounts (thanks Josh)
Then its ready to put into the car
Car is still coming off the road at the end of this month, old engine needs to come out and ill work on engine bay over Christmas
