Maybe people want to go fast but don't have 800k in the bank to blow on a car..?

I would have a R5 myself.
Me and the ex had 3 in the time we was together, 2 grey one`s and a white one.
The first grey one we had was mint and we only paid £800 for it back in 2003 though, It was his first car and the insurance wasn`t bad as he was 22 at the time.
Second one was the white one, This one we did a part ex on a 309 gti, It was a nightmare!! It had no end of problems on it, The amount of money we spent on getting it driveable again only for something else to go wrong with it. Needless to say we sold it for spares or repairs.
The last one we had was off a friend who blew the turbo on it, Sorted that out and was a lovely car and never let us down!!
I love saxo`s but i would sell mine if i thought i could get my hands on a r5 beauty

what you had done mate, or what was done before you bought it? as 240 is a strange figure, usually people push 200, then once forged, push it to 270.
i agree tho, there a good wee car, hence why i own one lol

IMO.....people say that Starlet GT's or Glanza's are ugly......but come on give the japs a break......i admit the GT is not a nice looking car but the performace makes up for it
But when the Glanza was produce imo i reckon for a old motor is good looking, come on its better looking then the Clio's/corsa's/punto's & ax etc that was made in the same year (1996)
Plus for an old car........out of the R5 and the VTS, the glanza is more well equiped.
The only downfull with a stock Glanza is the handling......when i first got mine i was so used to chucking my VTR round corners, did it when i got my glanza and my god i thought i was gonna tip lmao.........but on coilovers it handles alot better then my saxo ever did.

I know we are on a saxo site but cone on, first page everyone sayin glanzas are hoaked to sheite buy a vts, how many boy racers drive vts's? A real clean standard glanza would be sweet, a few mods and you'll be on to a winner.

Ive had both a Glanza and Starlet GT.......and i must say the Starlet Gt by far out handled my Saxo
I had mine pushing 160bhp just by uping the boost to 0.8, meshed turbo, de-cat and full exhaust system and was pushing 0-60's in 6.5secs approx
But yeh there a marmite car.....you either love um or hate them, but at the end of the day there still a good car even tho there 13/14 years old now.
Plus i would choose jap over anything french anyday......i did like the saxo's but i moved on and glad i did.
But this is a Saxo site.....so your all gonna back the VTS up what ever people say.

Wrong.
I barely see another VTS on the road. I see shit loads of VTRs and they always have a chav/other hoodlum behind the wheel.

VTS imo.
Starlet - Not very pretty imo. And turbo.. which if/when it dies it usually takes alot more money to fix. And lets face it you dont buy a turbo car to potter around at 30mph.
R5 - My god i would love one (i know it's not pretty as such either, but my unlce had one when i was young and i've wanted one ever since). But they are hard to maintain and they do like blowing up.
Which is why i'd say VTS. Should be more reliable, still nippy cars and they handle well. Better than Starlet's apparently.

if you want a cheap small hatch thats easily modded to big power, get a corsa B and put a let engine in.
buy a vts and you can spend 1 -2k to ge 150hp, buy a LET engine for £700 and you've got 200hp with scope for an easy 300hp.

Downside being they arent as good as a Saxo when it comes to handling. Even my friend who is very into his Corsa's admits that.
