I must be very lucky with my car. Slight corrosion on the under side (surface rust) no holes, a very solid car.
What have you used to clean the metal work etc?
Do you have plans on seam welding etc?

I plan to clean the metal work on mine with a wire brush attachment on a powerdrill. Low budget and all that

I used a wire brush all by hand i can sand blast in my unit so may give it a once over dont know yet. i am unsure on seam welding yet. And if you havent taken ecu outay be worth a shot. That hole is nothing at all, i can weld and its not a big thing at all. Also inside the car it needs a couple of plates but hardly anything

Started on the back end
Stripped rear bumper and arches out and swanted to see how bad those rear arches are where rot was but really isnt bad at all so over the whole car it needs 3 small plates im happy with tha and every nut and bolt has come off touch wood okay except the bottom arch nuts
Tool all the rubber off and cleaned under there im getting ocs on cleaning cant wait to repaint it !!!
Rust patch
Rear
The whole car will be painted by myself white and cant wait to get that going
Im also going to get a refurbed back axle as a precaution as that would be a nightmare going at high speed
Thanks for looking
Dan

My budget will be less than yours no doubt
Rallying is too expensive and dangerous for a poor chap like myself

Just had a quick look at the ECU location for any corrosion. All good and solid, I need to get the car undercover now to stop any other corrosion taking place over the winter.
Main priority is the wiring now before I go any further. I have stripped out some of the loom already, removing the rear wiper , stereo , airbag , central locking , alarm , heater wiring.
I have had a idea with mine , don't know if it is possible. I want to leave the original 8v in until the 16v is ready. To eliminate some further wiring the ECU will go inside the car just below where the heater box was. In doing this it should allow me to have the crossover plug mounted through the dash and by doing this shorten all the wiring from the outside wiring and allow it to connect within the car.
Would this work??

2 bad ideas here.
One i will not using using a standard ecu if you want to do anything an ecu is the first thing to buy. Ive got a 3 stage emerald ecu. Also i wouldnt use the 8v need atleast a vts lump in just for the power side.
Also you need the heater and all its wiring unless you planning to fit an aftermarket heater matrix. Firstly because i cant race when im cold as its a nightmare and secondly if your screen mists up i the wet etc your knarkered !!
Also think of things weight wise. Why have glass its reallllly heavy invest in poly windows. As if you keep glass you will need them filming anyways as new cars to get a log book need to have this on the glass but not on poly windows.
Hope that helps

The heater will be aftermarket so no issue, with ducting to the vents installed. Heated front screen will go in and poly windows inc rear screen already purchased.
I see what you say about the 8v but never the less not a bad unit until I can get the money for the 16v conversion sorted.
I will use DTA on the 16v so by working on the crossover plug I can pick out pin allocation ready for the change over.

Hmmmm i know what you mean but a vts lump is cheap and worth it. I cant give too muc away but my engine will be not a whole saxo lump it will be made of a cpuple of different engines next big save is the suspension as from previous history a top suspension is the way to go

So today a day of work ive got a few bits done.
I cleaned under the screen up heres a before and after
I have cleaned up 1 side of the underneath and that has been a pain in the arse to be honest but happy its done now
I have some more to do here but started under the back where spare wheel would be
The front drivers arch is well on its way to being cleaned up now and im happy with the results
I also worked on where the arch was bolted and sanded it all back ready for painting etc etc
