Yeah your white balance is out, when shooting in areas with a warm biast lighting they come out horribly orange under long exposure, adjust and they will come out better.. or just do it on gimp, but beware you do get grain when you do.
GIMP is epic, and theres also Paint.net.. both free, both like photoshop (in ways) but gimp is more advanced.
Picasa is less like photoshop and more a beginners auto effect tool, just the basic changes and enhancments, nothing special.

Have downloaded GIMP, and been having a play around with it. ATM, my pics that i've played around with look quite artificial, so, i'll keep playing around, and see if I can work it to my favour.

I actually rate the program, its set out very similar to LR. The sliders are good and you can do a hell of alot. Its a good one to use if you dont need to polish a turd but need a subtle tweek

Its like that one i used.. i think its LR.. Not so much a manipulation software, but more a tweaking software.
whereas in photoshop/gimp/paint.net you can manipulate and "polish turds" so to say.

Lightroom is doesnt have all the layers options, doging and burning cloning etc.. However should be more than enough for most who dont cock up/need to do graphic design work. Picasa still is used for a large amount of my work due to the simplicity of use, and the speed at which i can get through a days work and export easily

Thats the reason i loved it, you can tweak move on, tweak, move on and then export. Simples!
