Yet Another 16V Idle Thread
Recently plopped a 16v (3 Plug) into my saxo but having issues....
Started out as a misfire but realised the coil pack was the wrong one so got that changed for a brand new one. It had an engine management light for random misfire but changing the coil fixed this.
Now i am getting a very lumpy idle and its breaking up badly whilst revving the car. since i had some spare bits lying around that i know worked i have changed the tps, crank sensor, lambda and the map sensor.
The map sensor is interesting though, if i unplug the map sensor then the car seems to run near perfect with and odd jump in the idle?
Any help suggestions are muchly appreciated

Maybe an intake manifold leak somewhere? Maybe a compression test would be worth doing too?
Could be possible that the timing maybe slightly out?
Check earth's too!
I have a vtr with real lumpy idle, my eml goes out but I have a stored 1327 code, found a sagem coil pack in the shed and fitted that but still the same, it's not affecting the drive so I'm just gonna live with it lol.

I have checked for leaks by spraying carb cleaner and had no results, il give a compression test a go, pretty sure all of the earth's are good.

Also maybe try a new fuel filter and a bottle of redex, it may not fix it but you may aswell have a go at all the cheaper fixes first!

Give the throttle body a good clean out with carb cleaner.

Wrong map sensor, few different types IIRC. Red, blue, black and no label. Think I had one of each at one time!

is there any way of telling which one i need? the engine came with a plain black one (im not sure if it had a label or not) which was wrapped with ptfe tape so i ordered the same one from euro.

Right! Still got issues, so far I have replaced with brand new parts. Map sensor, tps, crank sensor, icv, both lambda's, coilpack, fuel filter, coolant temp sensor, and the air temp sensor. Probably other bits I have missed also.
Another weird thing to throw into the mix, when I started the conversion I ended up with an ECU that had been 'mapped' which I wasn't too keen on. The car starts and runs on this ECU (still missing) but is lumpy, sometimes won't rev and cuts out. Pretty horrible basically.
I got a new ECU because I was not sure about this one and now on this ECU the car will start but only for about half a second then it will cut out. Applying throttle does not make any difference at all (sounds like its still missing even though you don't hear it very long) no key on the dash so definitely unlocked also.
Got a compression tester coming in the morning to check that also.
Any help is much appreciated, about ready to set the thing on fire now!!

Have you tried a bottle of redex in the petrol tank? Give that a go and see if it sorts it out for you!
Compression test will be good too! Usually best to get the car warmed up for best results! My vtr had 210psi across the 4

Lol didn't realise I'd already suggested this! The reason being, I had a 206 that would only idle and as soon as you put any revs into it, it'd die! My mate told me redex and it worked great!

That's pretty decent! As long as it's in the green then it's good!

If you've not tried redex then try that, I'm genuinely not taking the piss!

If you have a mapped ecu running the car but its lumpy? That is probably because the ecu will be mapped for cams and your sayin your engine is standard so will be looking to run with performance cams for example. Not sure why the other ecu runs the engine then cuts out?

Gonna revive this, gave up on the engine for the past few months over christmas. Been busy doing other bits on the car, now all the rest is taken care of its back to my misfire woes.
Still been replacing parts/sensors with brand new items here and there. Still have a misfire.....
Removed the tank and emptied any fuel that was left, cleaned added half tank of fresh fuel and a system cleaner.
Car now seems to be more intermittent with the misfire if that makes any sense? Seems to have cleared up when revving but the idle is still terrible. Eml light flashing with p0300 no other codes at all. When I tried to drive it it sounded like a boxer and had no power at all.
Battery light flickers every now and then but tested alternator 14.1 volts
Someone just fix it for me!
