Default Getting access to locked files

Basically.. Found an old hard drive, want everything off it.. Trouble is, every file i click, picture, folder, anything, says i need to get permission.. Now i can go into properties, then security, and set the settings for everyone can access.. But i'm having to do this for each individual file.. 20 seconds per file or so.. Which will end up taking weeks...

Is there any way to get it so every file just goes to accessible by everyone? Currently got a power supply to the old hard drive and USB to my computer, so I'm having to sit on the floor next to a plug socket.. Which is annoying..

I just want every file transfering to my laptop..

Any help appriciated!

You should be able to take ownership of the files at top level directory level rather than per file?

Tbh I don't know if it'll have an impact if it's over USB, but without a doubt it'll be faster transfer wise to just open the PC and add it in as a hard drive rather than USB'ing it?

Or is it an old external hd?

Its an old PC HDD, but i have it going into my laptop.. I have like a contraption, which has a power supply, then a plug that goes into the pins, IDE? and that bit has a USB cable to my laptop... I can fully open the files like it was plugged into the PC normally.. Just sick of having to open each file separately to allow myself to look at it..

You need to take ownership of the files from the top level. It'll then propagate through all the files and folders. Once that is complete you need to set your permissions to allow you access them, which again will propagate through them all.

Over USB this might take some time

You just can't replace the sextapes you made with your 1st proper gf though can you mate..

Sussed it now.. I just went to the one main folder, and fiddled in the security settings and all seems well now!
