Not exactly. If there's gains to be had, they will show initially, and then the map can be adjusted to finalise.

Nice one dude - should get more torque, but as Ryan says you'll need a remap to see the full benefit of the change (should there be any) My guess is it'll drive better, more torque etc. I'll need mine remapped as my trumpets are 74mm long, and Bic was running 40mm one's when he had the engine!

It will be fun to see nonetheless.
After having a chat with John at AT Power yesterday, he was explaining that even though the setup I'm running is short, due to the smaller bodies and particular throttle position, they might already be acting rather like a longer setup. Anyway, we shall just have to wait and see.
I received my flocked dash yesterday! But as Lee has kindly agreed to help me fit it and some other bits too, I'm leaving it all wrapped up.

Great stuff Dave.
Dash will be a nice addition to the ghetto interior! Trumpets will be an interesting topic.

Hehe. It will look a lot nicer once I get a cage in there and have everything re-sprayed inside.

Like Ryan said, pointless testing something if your not going to alter the map to suit - otherwise we cant draw any conclusions from the test as its not "fair".
And also the rev limit - its the hydros that shouldnt be going above 7,800rpm, regardless if you have better springs or pistons.

You're really gonna put a flocked dash in then paint the interior?

It won't need a re-map to see if there are any gains to be made. It will be obvious if there are alterations in the power output, and then the fuelling can be tweaked if required. We'll be able to make a decent guess from studying the difference in power Vs the AFR at given RPM. A bit of difference to the AFR isn't gonna make much difference. If there are gains to be made, I'll pay for the dyno time to get it setup spot on, I'm not gonna cut corners, so the test will be fair. You don't need start a new map, go through 2 hours of setting up, just because you're changing the length of the bodies...
If the car spent lot's of time at 8000rpm, then I'd be taking a risk, but getting up around there now and again ain't gonna an issue. That's John being a scaremonger...

Yeah, as I won't get round to doing the interior for fecking ages. It's not hard to cover the dash...

The afr before and after the longer trumpets should hint at gains/losses so can get an initial idea if worth adjusting the map or not. They might actually give worse results, i'd expect not though

I dont agree im sorry. Your not giving the longer trumpet length a fair test if your not going to adjust the mapping - its as simple as that.
You can " guess" all you want, but without adjusting the map your not going to gain any accurate information on the test.
Where does the car make peak power Toad? I guess if the peak power is right at the limit of hydro's thats the only downside of those particular cams.
Anyway.... whats the plans for cage etc mate!

If it was say showing 13:1 afr across the revs before, and then say from 4k-6k after the longer ones were fitted it went to say 14:1 afr then you know there's some more torque there and worth adjusting the map slightly to see if it helps torque on a power run? Then if after adjusted if does produce more torque - then you could weigh up the cost of adjusting the rest of the map to suit (shouldn't take long tbh) or just leave the shorters etc.
I'm only stabbing in the dark here

You will see if the map actually needs adjusting Josh. Slight changes to the AFR won't make hardly any difference to the power output.
For example, and this is what I would like to happen with the longer trumpets: We notice a similar power output from 4-5000rpm. We notice a teeny increase in power from 5-6000rpm, and also the AFR has moved slightly. We notice a slight loss on power output from 7-8000rpm, and also the AFR has altered slightly. We can then assume that by tweaking the AFR in the given areas, it might be possible to gain a little midrage, and also not drop the peak power.
Another example might be: We notice a large drop in power between 7-8000rpm, and the AFR has only altered slightly. We could easily assume that there's no point in adjusting the AFR, as the slight difference won't have that great an impact on the power output.
Peak power 185.2bhp, and it hold this from around 7500 - 8000rpm IIRC.
Cage will come eventually. I'm skint though.

As i said in my previous post, these are all assumtions though.... you wont KNOW anything until the map is changed.

But you'll know whether or not you want to make the adjustments. It all depends how much the map loses accuracy. You don't need to start from scratch.

I never said you had to start from scratch, once the changes are made, THEN, and only then, will you know the true difference.
