i want a new lense for my holiday on sunday but debating either the
50mm

I'd never buy a lense, try dropping the terminal 'e'

mate they are completely different style lenses, you need to decided what you are after. also unless you have a full frame sensor DSLR like an 5D then you will need to multiply the focal lenght by 1.6, meaning the 50mm lens is actually 80mm. the 50mm canon f1.8 is a very nice lens and great for portraits ( you are aware its not a zoom lens, to make things large you have to move closer to the subject) but you can pick up a mint one of ebay for half the price.

i would also recommend looking on ebay for a canon 70-300mm usm lens as the autofocus will be much quicker

well i went for the 55-200 in the end. orderd it on jessops for 100pound and collect it tomorow but when im there im going to ask about both and im sure i can change as they the same price

yeah i was away its a fixed lens rather than having focus. thats what was slightly putting me off as i want it for a holiday lense aswell so 55-200 should do
